elevated e6kXy Obituary
elevated e6kXy It is with very heavy hearts that the daughters of Joan Millicent Andrews announce the death of their beautiful and extraordinary mum who passed away from liver cancer on Friday, October 26, 2018 at North York General Hospital, in Toronto, Ontario.
elevated e6kXy Joan, nee MacMillan Smith, a citizen of the United Kingdom, was born in Simla, India, to her parents, Iris and Arthur MacMillan Smith, along with sisters Patricia and Gillian. She moved first to London and then to Canada with her sister Patricia in 1957 and married Harry Geoffrey Andrews who passed away on January 18, 1986. Together they had Susan, Sarah and Gillian.
elevated e6kXy Joan leaves behind many, many people who loved her and looked up to her, including Susan Mary (partner Mike Mancuso), Sarah Jane (married to Chris Allen) and Gillian Louise (partner John Nuhn). Joan was a tremendous force in her sisters’ lives: Patricia Bridgnell and Gillian Dustin, as well as in the life of her brother-in-law Ian Bridgnell. They will all miss their Joanie very much. Joan’s grandchildren adored her and will miss their “Gma” greatly: Maddy, Sophie, Abby and Geoffrey Bonnanzio, Fabienne Andrews, and Liam Andrews Bancroft. She was “Auntie Joan” to many people over the years, but especially to her nieces Joanna Meilleur (married to Jean Meilleur) and Anne Bridgnell who passed away in 1981, Moira Dustin and Holly Dustin, and her nephews Christopher Bridgnell (married to JoAnn Bridgnell) and Benjamin Dustin. We know they will all miss her terribly.
elevated e6kXy Joan had too many great friends to mention individually, but was best friends with Mrs. Sheila Scott for over 60 years. She also treasured the friendship she had with her brother-in-law Robin Andrews. Joan knew the names and histories of everyone she came in contact with, however briefly: her love, curiosity, energy, intelligence, sarcasm, wit, unwavering sense of humour and courage in the face of great loss and massive health issues charmed and amazed all, and endeared her to everyone.
elevated e6kXy While there isn’t enough room in their hearts to hold all this sadness, Joan’s daughters are comforted knowing their mum is now at peace and has joined her husband Geoffrey in Heaven. They are finally together again after 32 years.
elevated e6kXy In lieu of flowers, Susan, Sarah and Gillian would appreciate donations in their mother’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) and/or North York General Hospital (www.nygh.on.ca).

Thank you, Mrs. Andrews, for taking me under your wing – feeding me and caring for me so completely. You have and always will have a place in my heart.
Can I call you Joan now?

So sorry for your passing Joan, but you leave behind a great gift to the world, my dearest friend Gillian, who will carry on making the world a bright and warm place.
Sarah, Abby, Sophie, Maddie and Geoffrey- We are so sorry for your loss. Deepest sympathies. The Marchand Family
So incredibly happy to have enjoyed the few wonderful years of caring and helping with your mum. I lived her feisty nature and her passion for family truly sorry for your loss xoxo
Dear Mum, i came in late in life. I wish we could have had more time together. However, we made the most of what we did have and it was always so much fun being with you. I’ll never forget any of it and will always see part of you in the 3 beautiful daughters you’ve left for us. Love Chris
Her laughter is what remains most for me. To her wonderful daughters and family, peace & kindness to you.
Very belated remembrance. Joan was my cousin via my mother Gladys (Sisters Iris, Marie, Gladys,Dorothy and Muriel) I hardly knew Joan but always kept in touch at Christmas time. I think we skyped once and Joan made us all laugh because she was speaking to Paddy asking questions not realizing we could see and hear her !! Obviously she was well loved by all. I had a mass said for her in the names of all her aunts who loved her very much. I wish you all peace. Love Eric
I have just this month learned of Joans death and am so sorry I was not aware. I would have liked to bid her goodbye… she and Geoff were good business friends and after his death I enjoyed getting together with Joan. I loved getting to know their girls and remember all as good people.. if any of you read this I am sending fond thoughts and enjoying lovely memories of both your parents. Regards, Denise ( Howe)
