elevated rkuJq A life well lived is remembered. We are sad to announce the passing of Frances Elizabeth Wood, (nee MacGillivray), at the age of 95 years, our Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend. Passed away peacefully Tuesday July 9, 2019 surrounded by her family. Born April 22, 1924, Frances was pre-deceased by her husband William Joseph Wood (1984). She is survived by her son William Stephen (Bill) Wood, Aurora, ON, daughter-in-law Wendy Heather Wood, Grandson Matthew Stephen Wood, Granddaughter Stephanie Heather Wood, plus her many nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia and PEI. Frances was the last of 4 sisters who grew up in Bridgewater and Halifax Nova Scotia. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Jean Shankel, Helen Julien and Ruth Corkum. She will miss her best friends, Lillian and Don Appleby of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Frances worked most of her life at the North York Board of Education, in an administrative capacity, helping adults continue learning. Her life was also highlighted by many memorable cruises with friends. Her trip to Paris was her favorite. Frances also fondly remembers her years working for the RCMP Immigration and Citizenship Offices in Germany after WWII. She enjoyed many travels throughout Germany and other parts of Europe during these working years before marriage in 1956 and the joy brought raising a family. A long-time resident of Willowdale, ON, Frances had a large circle of friends brought together by their love of Bridge parties. Known for her outspoken frankness and quick wit, Frances will be missed by her laughs watching I LOVE LUCY, The Carol Burnett Show, plus her heartfelt JOY every time she watched and sang along to The Sound of Music. We will all miss you Mother. Cremation has taken place. Private Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill, Ontario. Many thanks to the Nursing and Care Staff at Kingsway Arms in Aurora, ON and McKenzie Health Centre, Richmond Hill, ON. Donations to your charity of choice are much appreciated.

So sorry Bill and extended family in the loss of your Mom. Frances was very special to me not just instrumental in landing me my first job but so helpful when I moved to Toronto. She wanted to give, give and many a Sunday’s she had me in for a meal. I’m sure you will miss her sweet smile With love and sympathy Helen (Roma) in case you forgot I’m Brenda’s special aunt. God Bless.
…and to all of us you will always be known as ‘Little Helen’. Thank you for your kind words. I remember those Sundays when you would come for a meal and a good talk. All the best to you and your family. Bill
Was so lovely to have your mom in our care for the time she was at Kingsway Place. She was a feisty lady who always made us smile with her wit. She will always be remembered fondly.
