Zia Gina, my dearest cugini and all your families:
I would like to express my deepest sorrow for zio’s loss, a dear husband, father, nonno, the list is endless.
If I may, I would like to share my favourite memories of zio and zia when they were teenagers before and after their blessed marriage of 65 years.
It was postwar, a time when culturally, everyone lived in multigenerational homes, with no exception. Being very young at the time, I still very vividly recollect zio and zia’s courtship while falling in a deep inseparable love.
During their courtship they had a great advantage, over others, that being both my parents’ siblings, zio had somewhat free reign to visit the Memme household, without suspicion, so he thought, and was always fabricating stories of his always unexpected welcomed visits. He was quite entertaining with his zany personality and as children, my siblings and myself were always happy to see him come. Once he went as far to pick all my nonno’s nurtured prized watermelons during the night before they were going to market, can you imagine that. My nonno was devastated! Just another excuse for him to come over to see his beautiful princess, always at a distance of course, as that was an understood law at the time, without Covid19, so he could come over and tell nonno how sorry he was that such a thing could happen.
Trust me,eventually the two were fooling no one, especially my nonna Consiglia who had eyes like a tiger and I swear she could see in the darkness of the night, so he finally had to state his honourable intentions which were undoubtedly accepted.
Zio had his approved emigration to Canada so they married by proxy and zia followed to emigrate shortly thereafter.
We emigrated the following year and finally reconnected with everyone, but at the same time very bittersweet as to all the dear ones we left behind.
Zio and zia being a young married couple started their married journey and rented a flat on Ridelle, off Dufferin St. which became very familiar to me.
For the first couple of summers after immigrating, my parents allowed me to stay with my zii which I was elated to do, as zia was like a second mother to me while growing up. They treated me like their own with love and kindness, to be honest, they used to spoil me, something I wasnt used to.
We had fun every day we spent together, they were like two happy inseparable children. Something I will never forget, at dinner time, he would look at me very seriously and say: “ Essili sa briacon, mo si fa nadru bicchirucc, ma, e na parol?? And he would looked at both us, break into his amusing grin, until zia and me would erupt into hysterical laughter!!
Zio, rest in peace, you will be greatly missed more then you could ever imagine.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful memories ❤️
I didn’t know these 2 in their teens but I can attest that their teenage spirit and love lasted for years afterward. As a kid driving from Wainfleet to Toronto for endless weddings – I can say I always looked forward to seeing Uncle Angelo and Aunt Gina! They were always a highlight, not only for me but for all my cousins. I feel like they treated us like grandkids before they had grandchildren of their own and I will always be grateful for that. Uncle Angelo – thanks for so many great memories and so much laughter. Aunt Gina, Restare Forti!! And to the entire family – just keep being you and Uncle Angelo will live on…Sending Love, Michelle.
To my dear friend Adriana & Family
My deepest and heartfelt condolences.
There are no words to express my feelings of loss.
I called Angelo (PA), and we weren’t even blood related, but he was like a second father to me, and treated me like a part of his family.
I truly loved him with all my heart.
There is, and will always be admiration for Angelo and Gina.
Watching them work together making homemade goods will always be an inspiration for me that will last a lifetime .
Their hearts and home always opened to family and friends, always welcoming with open arms.
I will miss the laughs, the espressos, the limoncello, but most of all I will miss you, my forever SCOPA partner.
PA, I love you, rest with the angels. You will always be forever in my heart.
With love
Silva Corona and Family

Adrie, Mike and Mary and families,
Our deepest condolences to each of you, and to your families.
I don’t know where to begin. We are all still in shock and denial, and still can’t believe that this is for real.
I looked out from my kitchen window a couple of weeks back, and I saw Angiolino on a ladder, pruning his trees. Then he proceeded to prune the trees in my backyard, leaving the branches on the ground for my grandkids to pick them up and put them out for garbage. This was his routine. He didn’t ask. He just did what he knew had to be done. How can this happy, healthy man have left us so suddenly?
I have had your dad as my backyard neighbour for 54 years, almost before you all were born. When I moved into my house as a new bride, he was already there. Our backyards were attached. He and Nick eventually installed a gate between the two yards because my girls kept hopping the fence to come to your house, and conveniently stay there for dinner because your dinners usually included Pasta and all the food that they liked. That gate, as you all know, still remains open today. He wasn’t just our neighbour. He was a part of our family. In fact he was like the grandfather my children and grandchildren never had. He never discriminated. He has set my children on the straight and narrow, and when my grandchildren came along, he did the same with them. Always in the name of love and genuine concern for their wellbeing.
When Nick passed, he was the first one to step in to help me, and guide me with whatever needed to be done around the house or the garden. He was truly my rock in my most needed time of need. How can I ever forget that? It’s going to be so hard, because I’m going to miss seeing him pass outside my kitchen window, especially during the coming summer months.
There are so many memories that we have shared as a family, and his passing has left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. We have lost a member of our own family, and it is devastating.
May he rest in peace, and may you and all your families have his love, warmth and welcoming smile to sustain you, and hold him close to your hearts, during these trying times ahead. God Bless.
Well, said Gin, such beautiful memories!
Dearest Gina, Mike, Sandra, Adriana, Norm, Mary, Carlos, and the entire Moretti Family,
Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to all of you for the passing of Angelo. There are not enough words to express the emptiness we are all feeling.
Angelo, or Zio Angelo as Julia and Daniel most lovingly referred to him as was more than a neighbour to us, he was family! He was always a warm smiling face to greet you when we got home whether he was on the verandah or sitting in the backyard. If he was outside it was always the first stop the kids would make walking home from school.
He was also always a helping hand to both Mike and I as we settled in our first home. We have been blessed to be neighbours for the last 25 years and we would always find him trimming our roses, grapevines, trees, tending to “our garden” or whatever he claimed Gina instructed him to do. Yet, we always knew he did it with all his heart. His kindness was limitless and his laughter infectious. We will miss the constant pranks he and Mike exchanged over the years, sneaking up on each other, hiding shoes or anything else they could find. Then, of course, there were all the jokes and stories he told, that he knew would guarantee Gina and I would be brought to tears from laughing so hard. We will cherish all of those special memories forever. I will personally miss the phone calls letting me know that the coffee is ready and the shick-shock is being served. I am so grateful to have shared those moments and I will keep them in my heart forever.
Through his example, Angelo has taught us all so much through his kindness, acceptance, devotion to his family, his work ethic and his welcoming spirit to all his friends. His greatest source of joy has always been his family; his beautiful wife Gina, his children and possibly his greatest pride, his grandchildren and now great-grandchildren. His love for all of you is undying.
It still seems very unreal and we expect to see that warm smile next door. Please know we truly share in your grief and we will keep Angelo in our hearts forever. Unfortunately, words are not enough but we are praying that all of your happy memories will somehow provide you with strength and peace during this time. God has truly received an angel!
Angelo, we miss you terribly, we will forever love you, God bless you and rest in peace.
Giovanna, Mike, Julia and Daniel Romano

Dear Gina, Michael, Sandra & family,
My most heartfelt sympathies to you all.
Gina & Angelo were neighbors 2 doors down on Home Rd. Their love for each other shone. I shared many a limoncello with Angelo. He was a ray of sunshine. I will never forget the twinkle in eyes. Thanks to them I gained some wonderful friendships with their family.
Eulogy from Grandchildren
Angelo Moretti was a wonderful man, full of life and love for everyone that knew him. For those that had the pleasure of getting to know him, knew that he had many incredible traits.
He was the hardest worker. He helped raise 3 children, care for 8 grandchildren, and he was even lucky enough to meet two great grandchildren. Nonno Angelo was always on hand to help with his family, whether it was to make the perfect dip egg as an after school treat or to watch his grandkids’ cat, Pumpkin, and we all knew that he secretly loved that cat more than many things in life.
The Moretti household was always full of laughter, food, wine and card games. Especially on a Sunday, when the whole family would gather to enjoy a delicious lunch featuring homemade sugo and wine prepared with love from Nonno. Angelo enjoyed teaching his grandchildren his secret recipes for Wine, Sausage and Limoncello. He would teach them the tricks of his trade, and then sneak off to watch a few minutes of wrestling before coming back to check in with everyone…and no one was ever allowed to leave without a shot of his famous shickshack. We will carry on these traditions for generations to come, although he truly was the very best at making them.
He had an affinity for laughter and constantly played jokes or April Fools’ on his wife. On a typical Sunday lunch, after the grandchildren have finished the bottles of homemade wine, he would look over and say ‘what, no good?’ with his signature joking smile on his face. Any chance he had to make a silly face behind someone’s back, Angelo took advantage and made everyone laugh.
Angelo was happiest when he played one of two games, Bocce and Cards. During the yearly Bocce Tournament, he was always crowned the Bocce Champion, and every single player wished they had him on their team. He was also known as the Card shark. To those that played with him, knew that he always did two things. 1. The elastic from the deck, would sit on his wrist for safe keeping and 2. There was a paper and pen for Angelo to keep track of the score, even if they were only counting to 11. He always took his time, but then again, he almost always was the winner.
He was the best man we knew and it showed by the amount of loved ones he had. Not just family or friends, but also his neighbors. His generosity was limitless, his smile was infectious and he was a role model to us all. He will be forever missed by many, especially his wife, kids and grandkids.
We love you Nonno.
