elevated uungv COLLANTES, PETRA (nee MALABANAN) – April 25, 1924 – August 23, 2020
elevated uungv It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Petra (Pet) Malabanan Collantes passed away peacefully on August 23, 2020 at Scarborough General Hospital. She was 96 years old.
elevated uungv Pet was predeceased by the love of her life, Isidro Silverio Collantes (1924 – 1997) and her son Manuel Noli Collantes. She was a devoted mother to Imelda (widow of Ben de Guzman), Irma (Juanito Centeno), Cynthia, Chito, Charlie (Patricia), Gabriel (Lilian), Cristina (Vince Gorospe) and Reny (Joyce). She will be greatly missed by her 22 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, and will be lovingly remembered by family and friends.
elevated uungv Pet was born in Tanauan, Batangas, Philippines, where she enjoyed a happy youth with her parents and siblings. In 1944, she married Sid Collantes and they settled in Manila where they raised 9 children. In 1980 they immigrated to Toronto, where all of their children eventually settled. She led a very active life, enjoyed her many travels and developed great friendships and associations. She was very fond of her friends at the Ladies of Rizal where she served as secretary for many years.
elevated uungv A special thank you to the staff of the Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence for the great care she received while in residence during the last three years.
elevated uungv Viewing will take place at the Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East (west of Bayview Ave.) on Saturday, August 29, 2020, from 10 a.m. – 12 noon. Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will take place in the Chapel of St. Joseph, Holy Cross Funeral Home.
elevated uungv Internment will follow after Mass, at Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 1810 Albion Road, Etobicoke. Pet will be laid to rest with her husband Sid.
elevated uungv Due to the current COVID-19 distancing restrictions, the number of visitors to the funeral home is restricted to immediate family. The funeral service will be live streamed at 12:00 p.m. We thank you in advance for your cooperation. Memorial donations made to the Providence Healthcare Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
