elevated BGCKl It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nicola “Nick” Carella (lovingly known as Papa) on January 10, 2021 at the age of 84 years.
elevated BGCKl Papa will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Noreen, cherished children Antoinette and Frank; daughter-in-law Elaine, son-in-law Ercole, and daughter-in-law Antoniette; his grandchildren all of whom adored him: Claudia, Amanda, Nicholas, Anthony, Victoria, Brianna, and Elise; grandsons-in-law Rafael and Don and granddaughters in-law Natasha and Sidney; and four great grandchildren Sienna, Oliver, Isaiah, and Felicia. He will be fondly remembered by his brother Vito, his sister Teresa, many dear brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and other extended family and friends, and will be deeply missed by all.
elevated BGCKl Born in Bari, Italy, Nicola grew up a hard-working and resilient young man who proudly supported his family and he learned early on the values of family, loyalty, integrity and belonging. He taught these values to his family every day through his actions and we will always remember our dear Papa for these teachings. He has made an enormous impact on the lives of countless families and friends.
elevated BGCKl Papa came to Canada in 1954 at 17 years of age and settled in Toronto. He worked as an electrician and later as an upholsterer and went on to run several factories, one at which he met Noreen, his loving wife of 58 years. Papa had an exceptional talent in upholstery and sofa design and dedicated his life to designing, creating and teaching others to make quality furniture. He would envision the design in his mind, create the pattern by eye and to everyone’s amazement, he would make the most beautiful sofas, loveseats and chairs that were constructed perfectly to the very last staple and stitch. Papa took great pride in his work and he worked until he was 80 years old. We miss Papa very much and he will be in our hearts forever.
elevated BGCKl A service will be held for immediate family at 12:00 pm on Friday January 15 at Holy Cross Chapel. For those who would like to watch the service, it will be live streamed via this link below:
