Catholic Cemeteries & Funeral Services (CCFS) respects your right to privacy. CCFS is committed to implementing practices that protect the privacy of your personal information that we hold. We work to ensure that we meet or exceed the requirements set out by applicable law and the regulations thereunder.
This Privacy Policy describes how CCFS may collect, use and disclose personal information. It applies to any personal information we collect or receive about you, from any source. Reference to “you” or “your” includes your personal representative. The policy may be updated by CCFS giving reasonable notice of the revised terms by posting on our website (catholic-cemeteries.com/privacy) Each time this Privacy Policy is amended, the “Last Updated” date at the beginning of the Privacy Policy will be revised. It may be supplemented or modified by consents you provide to CCFS, and by agreements you enter into with CCFS from time to time.
Personal Information
Personal information that we may collect, use and disclose includes your contact information, identifying information such as date and place of birth, social insurance number, your billing/payment details, information about the products and services which you have purchased, your interest in obtaining information about the interment rights, services and products we sell, information about your personal representative, caregivers, family or friends, recruitment data and other information that you may provide to us or that we may collect from other sources in the course of our relationship with you.
Our collection, use and disclosure of personal information
CCFS collects personal information directly from you when you purchase or interact with us about a product or service that we offer or provide, when you use or submit content to post on our website or social media pages, when you interact with us by email or otherwise (when you complete surveys, or when you sign a guestbook). We may also collect personal information from a third party based on your consent or as otherwise permitted by law.
We identify the purposes for which we may collect, use and disclose your personal information at the time that we collect such information or by referring/linking to this Privacy Policy. Such purposes for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information include, but are not limited to:
- Informing you about interment rights and cemetery/funeral services and products;
- Making and administering your funeral and cemetery arrangements and contracts, and delivering products and services to you, including assisting your personal representative, caregivers, family or friends;
- Issuing invoices and processing your payments;
- Sharing obituaries and accompanying photograph(s) with third party publishers (such as newspapers, our website);
- Creating an online memorial including but not limited to photograph(s) and/or video(s) where others may share condolences, photograph(s) and/or video(s) and other content;
- Arranging or administering a trust or insurance contract for you;
- Internal business purposes, such as responding to your questions and inquiries, and administering and improving our customer service, website and other services;
- Sending you promotional and related electronic communications about our products and services;
- Establishing, managing or terminating your employment relationship (including certain agency or contracting relationships) with CCFS or as an applicant for employment with CCFS; and
- Additional purposes which are required or permitted by law, or that are identified at or before the time that the information is used for such additional purposes.
CCFS may share your personal information with our service providers (e.g. data management, storage services, transfer services), suppliers, our legal and financial representatives (collectively “Receivers”) who help us provide services to you and to help us complete the above-noted purposes/tasks. All such third parties are made aware of the confidential nature of your personal information. Your personal information will be shared with Receivers on a “need to know” basis only and we limit the information shared to what is needed for the specific task being performed or fulfilled. Your personal information may also be disclosed to government agencies as required by applicable law.
CCFS’ facilities, related companies, and affiliates may share personal information with each other in relation to the purposes above or that you have consented to. Some Receivers may be located outside of Canada where personal information may be accessed, transferred, disclosed, stored and processed, and accordingly may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.
In the event of sale, transfer, merger, reorganization, dissolution, or similar event we may transfer your information to one or more third parties as part of that transaction, including during the negotiation of an actual or contemplated transaction, but we only provide as much information as is needed for the purposes of the transaction.
CCFS will typically obtain your express consent, or refer/link to this Privacy Policy, for such purposes at or before the time that we collect, use or disclose your personal information, except where permitted or required by law.
Subject to contractual requirements and applicable law, you may withdraw or vary your consent to CCFS’ collection, use or disclosure of your personal information at any time, by providing written notice to CCFS by contacting the Chief Privacy Office as indicated below. CCFS may advise you of the implications of the withdrawal or variation. You may opt-out of receiving promotional and related electronic communications from CCFS by using the unsubscribe mechanism provided with the communication.

If you do nothing during your visit but browse through our website and read the information contained on the web pages, we may gather certain information about your visit automatically. Retention and Safeguarding of Personal Information
CCFS retains personal information for as long as required to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, as permitted or required by law (e.g. internal business or management or legal purposes of CCFS). We have implemented physical, technological and organizational processes and practices designed to help protect your personal information against loss or theft, and unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.
Access and Correction of Personal Information
You may request access or a correction to your personal information or express any concerns regarding our handing of your personal information by contacting the Chief Privacy Office in writing as indicated below. We will respond to your request and provide access to any personal information that we have collected, used or disclosed, as required by law. We will attempt to respond to your request within thirty (30) days. We will advise you in writing if we cannot meet your requests within this time limit.
