Lidwina (Kim Nio) Gho passed away in Keswick on December 4, 2021. She was a devoted wife to Douglas Ng. The third-born; she was a beloved sister to Cornelius, Martina and Maria (Jack Koo). Lidwina was pre-deceased by her parents Simeon (Joe Gie) Gho and Fatima (Tjoa Jang) Gho. Her energy was spent showering her love to her many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Prior to life in Canada, she was awarded Drs.of Economics from the University of Indonesia. Among her many roles, she taught at Atmajaya Catholic University during its inception. Under President Soekarno’s era, she was Head of Budget and Technical Coordinator for the National Monument of Indonesia and the Kawali Distribution Coordinator for the approval of foreign aid in Indonesia. The Department of State Secretariat provided military entourage for her transportation. She was always very active and sociable. Immigrating to Canada in the 1970’s, she took an active interest at City Council meetings, the local catholic parish and Carmelite order in Markham, Sutton and Newmarket. She was very charitable to many catholic charities. Her last remaining years were working at Canada Post and owning, managing Park Motel (Sutton) and Full Service Car Wash (Hamilton). Visitation, Church Sermon, and Internment will be at Assumption Catholic Cemetery and Chapel on December 8th, 2021.
May God give you eternal rest, Lidwina. You were so kind and generous to so many, especially in the Sutton & Keswick parishes.
My heartfelt gratitude to all the Catholic communities where Lidwina’ had been living , especially to you Rose , Jones & Ian Penn, Dr. Michael & June Scandiffio , the many email addresses of friends whom I only recently knew. Dear Rev Father Herman Dias,
Sorry for replying to your encouraging message to my sister the web kept on disappearing, deleting my reply and message. So had to rewrite over and over.
After I complained by email to them now all of the replies and messages all showing up all at once.
Thank you for your patience in reading repetitious replies.
Thank you kindly for allowing me posting your beautiful and touching appreciation letters to me for Lidwina in her obituary.
They are our treasure and had lifted up our grief because of those recognition of Lidwina’s service & dedication . I selected two letters to post as acknowledgement for her work.
I didn’t realized that my sister had left her loving foot steps wherever she lived. Her humility, hard work, silence in prayers , selfless and love & passion., I just. took as natural. She loved to please whoever she had touched which I took for granted without acknowledging them. Now that she is gone to better place I pray for her intercession to help and protect us all.
i just copied the body of those letters that are my consolation:
“Hello Maria: Thank you for sending that wonderful remembrance of your dear sister, Lidwina. I thought I knew her fairly well, but I did not know of her prior life in Indonesia. She was so generous and was always remembering various parishioners. She would give gifts of a bottle of wine/liquor or a box of chocolates and sometimes money, particularly if you were having a fund raising project.
She would remind us when it was a person’s birthday, especially the different priests or even their anniversary date. She had a terrific memory. Towards the end of the time she attended church, it was so hard to see her decline. A few times Douglas drove her to church, particularly when she could not longer drive. Joan and Ean Penn took her communion after that and sometimes Douglas did not want them to attend. Then Ean Penn developed cancer so all visitation stopped and then Pandemic occurred.
She attended also St. Anthony’s church in Virginia which is down Hwy 48 from Sutton. She also attended the Carmelites in Zephyr and Regina Mundi, down Warden Avenue. She was well know in our area and well loved. I always recall her carrying her Book of Christian prayer, which she read several times of day. She attended most masses, Wednesdays we had Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Fridays we had Adorations, Stations of the Cross during Lent, etc. She would always be there.
Please know that she was well respected and quite deeply loved. Most are saddened that we will not have her funeral mass here in Sutton/Keswick. Please send me her obituary.
Please give me your mailing address so we can forward Mass cards to you for when we will have Masses in her honour.
With great kindness
And
Dear Maria,
Thank you for providing us with a fuller appreciation of just how special Lidwina was. She was always present with a winning smile whenever we saw her at mass or church function. Her quiet modesty hid the many talents she exhibited in her homeland. We remember her with great fondness as a beautiful woman of faith.
May God grant her eternal peace.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael and June Scandiffio “
