elevated Nto4P Patricia “Pat” McLaughlin passed from this life at dawn on Christmas morning suddenly, surrounded by her loving sisters Marie Stoneman (Dennis), Brenda Aquilina (Charles) and Caroline O’Connor (Patrick) and brother Jim McLaughlin (Heidi). She was a dedicated teacher who gave of herself over a career of more than 36 years with the Toronto Catholic District School Board from which she had retired in 2016. Most of those years saw her teaching the youngsters of Blessed Sacrament School at Yonge Street and Bedford Park Avenue in Toronto at the Grade 1/2 level. She was a passionate and accomplished gardener. Pat is the cherished aunt of nieces and nephews whom she loved, mentored and cared for unstintingly: Laura and Sarah Aquilina, William and Christopher Stoneman, Amanda, Nicole and Daniel O’Connor and Emily, Paul and Eric McLaughlin. She has been the center of family life and the den mother to us all. Pat is survived by her Aunt Annie Hunter of Slievebawn, Ireland, by many cousins residing in Ireland, the UK and the USA and by her uncles Paddy McLaughlin of Malin Head, County Donegal, Ireland and Charlie McLaughlin of Milton, Massachusetts-their twinkling Irish eyes mimicking those of her adoring father Bill who predeceased her in 1985. Her much loved mother Bridie McLaughlin (nee Houghton) predeceased her in 2015 after several years under Pat’s kindly care, having herself lavished so much care on Pat and her siblings in their early years. More recently Pat pampered and enjoyed the devotion of her (very fortunate) Malti-poo Gracie Lou. Pat is greatly loved and she means even more to us than she knew. Our hearts are broken to have lost this gentle soul. We commend her to the embrace of our Lord asking that she be granted His eternal life and that His perpetual light may shine upon her.

Pat, I will greatly miss you in my life. I will always have the memories of our years teaching at Blessed Sacrament. I will cherish all the after school pow-wow’s, all the mischief we got into, golfing our way, and most recently our walks at Yorkdale. The children, parents and teachers whose lives you enriched will forever reap the benefits of your teaching. Rest In Peace my friend.
My deepest condolences to the family. Pay was a beautiful, kind and gentle being. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Pat was one of the kindest, most wonderful and cheerful persons, who had a positive impression on everyone she encountered. She was a real joy to work with on a daily basis at Bl. Sacrament School and her support and spiritual influence was incredible.
May our loving God bless Patricia’s soul as she ascends to Heaven.

“Those we love don’t go away, They walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear.”
May perpetual light shine upon dear Patsy just as her smile would brighten a day when meeting her in the hood, her hair catching fire in the sunlight. Eternal rest be hers. – Angela and Roger
I’d known Pat for a few years, and her kind, gentle way was always so welcome when friends got together. My condolences to her family. I will miss you Pat.
Our deepest sympathy to all of you in the loss of your dear sister and aunt. Though many years have passed since we have been in touch with the McLaughlin family, you are often in our thoughts. Bridie looked after our little Daniel as a baby and gave him such loving care as did the entire McLaughlin family. We think of you whenever we pass Cranbrooke and we are holding you in our hearts in prayer at this difficult time. May God hold Pat and all of you in the palm of His hand now and for eternity.
Grace & Peace.
Peter & Sheila McCabe
Our deepest condolences to Pat’s whole family. Our love, thoughts and prayers are with them.
Dear Caroline and family,

My sincere condolences to Pats’ family. Losing such a lovely sister must be heartbreaking. She is surely in heaven.
Rest In Peace Pat.🖤
Our “Miss McLaughlin” was a wonderful teacher at Blessed Sacrament School. Her warm, caring, sensitive approach allowed her to form positive relationships with her students and their parents. We knew our children were in good hands with Miss McLaughlin as their teacher. Over the last thirty years we saw Ms McLaughlin regularly at Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church. She always greeted us with a warm smile and we always remarked on how pleased we were that she taught our four children. We send our condolences to her family at this sat time. May she rest in peace. Fondly David and Jody Macdonald

Pat was a true angel on Earth, always willing to help out a friend in need. I was so blessed to have benefited from her kindness and consideration on many occasions. I will especially miss our chats about education and our dear pets.

Brenda, my deepest sympathies to you and all of your family on the loss of your dear sister and aunt. Pat was a quiet, yet strong, pillar at Blessed Sacrament School for so many years. She was a passionate teacher who cared deeply about the learning and well-being of each of her students and a wonderfully kind colleague with a great sense of humour. I recall the good laughs we shared together each time someone (both adults and children) mistook one of us for the other.
May she find eternal rest and peace with God in the company of loved ones who have gone before her.
My sincere sympathy the family with the passing of your sister. Simone

My condolences to Marie and family for their loss. It is always difficult to deal with a sudden passing. Hope you can take some comfort knowing she was with her family at the time of her passing.
I think I first met Pat when I hired her in the fall of 1981.
She possessed the kindness yet firmness I knew sensed would be perfect for our little ones.
Pat had a sly sense of humour and often displayed it at staff gatherings especially with the brash men.
She always went the extra mile to help with extracurricular and if I recall correctly She taught shot put. LOL.
I had the ultimate respect for Pat and so cherished her as a staff member and as a role model.
My heart goes out to her family.
I guess God decide Pat was needed.
Thank you Pat for all you did for the community of Blessed Sacrament.❤️🙏🏽

I was very saddened to her the news. My deepest condolences to Miss McLaughlin’s family. My children were truly blessed to have had her. She was a wonderful Grade One teacher who created an environment that nurtured the children to enjoy reading and become confident learners. I was fortunate to be part of the mother’s group that came in to be reading buddies. I am also grateful for the kindness, warmth and understanding that she gave me and the children over the years. Fondly remembered by Helen, Alanna, Brendan and Austin Charles. May she Rest In Peace.
Our family was so lucky to have Ms. McLaughlin as our teacher growing up at Blessed Sacrament. She made every school day and lesson unique, fun, and memorable. Ms. McLaughlin was fair, kind, and extremely wise. Our family and her students had endless respect for her. She was not only our teacher, but she was a leader. She set a prime example to her students on how to treat others, work hard, and live every day with a positive outlook. We are deeply saddened, and we send condolences to the whole family.
Thank you Ms. McLaughlin, for leaving such a positive mark on our hearts.

Pat treated her students with gentleness and kindness and knew how to develop their skills and talents by making learning interesting and fun. She also knew how to involve parents and it was great to help with reading or class outings as she made us welcome.
