elevated QWH30 Obituary

elevated QWH30 Corrado Civello age 96, passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loving family at his home in Markham Ontario on February 26th , 2022.

elevated QWH30 Corrado was born in Pachino, Sicily, the 8th  cherished child of Margherita Sampieri and Orazio Civello. Corrado first set his eyes on his beloved Carmela at the young age of 11. He was outside playing with friends when he spotted her and asked who she was? Carmela’s brother Giuseppe was a playmate on that day and told him it was his sister. Immediately Corrado proclaimed to his friends that he would marry the girl he had eyed in the distance.  He did just that 12 years later at age 23. The two of them were true kindred spirits and they were married for 73 years. Theirs was the embodiment of a profound love rarely witnessed.

elevated QWH30 Corrado was an exceptional man in many ways. His many attributes included loyalty, bravery, generosity, honesty, optimism, romanticism, and creativity. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and was fiercely protective of those he cared for. He was the life of the party, funny, charming, and always loving.

elevated QWH30 At the arrival of Carmela and Corrado’s twin daughters, Margherita and Raffaela, Corrado left farming manual labour, to start his own business.  He was so successful in this enterprise, that he was able to purchase a small grocery store from his sister.  Carmela would operate the store while Corrado continued to grow his business, selling goods from town to town. They had already built a good life, but they wanted more for themselves and their children.

elevated QWH30 The family emigrated to Toronto, Canada on June 12th, 1955. Corrado started working in construction the very next day. He was known for his hard work, honesty, and loyalty and was promoted very quickly. He feared nothing and loved a new challenge believing he could learn and do anything.

elevated QWH30 Corrado left construction to takeover a bread route delivering to Toronto’s east end Sicilian community. He quickly grew the business twentyfold. His positive attitude and exceptional service won him countless, appreciative customers. Many of these customers grew into deep unwavering friendships throughout his lifetime. He recognized early on that the bread delivery business was declining. He sold his business only to open another business known as Poppa Pizza. Here again he partnered with his wife Carmela where they worked together for 5 years before selling it for a tidy profit. He went back to work in construction driving dump trucks and operating heavy machinery until his retirement.

elevated QWH30 Corrado loved cars, so much that he bought his first used car without a driver’s license. He proudly took his entire family to the dealership in 1963 to purchase his first new car. He chose a Ford Galaxy 500, and his children picked the colour. white with a red interior.  He was always interested in cars, and he possessed an amazing ability to identify all makes and model years.

elevated QWH30 Corrado loved many things:  his garden, dancing, food, wine, espresso, and Italian movies.  He loved people and above all he loved his family. The family would like to thank all the Doctors and nurses at Markham Stouffville hospital as well as all of his palliative care team. Additionally, we would like to thank his at home care givers for their efforts over the years and for their endless patience and love.

elevated QWH30 He is survived by his wife Carmela Civello (nee Agosta), his children: Margherita Arangio (nee Civello), Raffaela Caruso (nee Civello), Orazio Civello, Giorgio Civello; Grandchildren:  Nella, Giuseppe, Carmela, Corrado (Caruso), Laura, Michael, Patrick, Corrado (Civello), Nico.   Great Grandchildren: Serena, Olivia, Letizia, Isabella, Sammy, Oscar, Darla, Violet, Carlo, Charlie, Mia, Sophie, and Teo.
