elevated psBbm August 1, 1928 – April 16, 2022

elevated psBbm MAMA, Our Mama, Baka and praBaka Franiska Schmee, was born in Ruma Sriem Croatia, 1928.  At age 15 she escaped communist Yugoslavia to Linz, Austria.  In St. Martin refugee camp at age 17, she married our dad Ivan Kupresak. In the camp she gave birth to four of us, Helen, Tony, Emma and Steve.  In 1954 we immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba where mama bore 2 more kids, Linda and Johnny. Mama loved babies. 

elevated psBbm For many years, mama worked for the Canadian Department of Defence. She was so proud to work for the military.  She worked in the dining room, serving high ranking officers from all over the world.  By the time they left the military college, they all completed mama’s lecture on Croatian History 101. Mama made sure they knew Croatia and Croatians existed.  

elevated psBbm As much as mama loved her heritage, she also loved her new homeland Canada and was forever grateful  for giving her the opportunity to build a good life, and raise a family.  She would advise everyone to get a government job because they have good pensions. LOL!

elevated psBbm Mama loved her children, grand children and great grandchildren. She loved God and was grateful for the long life He granted her. She thanked Him for her gardens, flowers and mother natures beauty. At harvest time everyone around her enjoyed the fruits of her harvest. Especially in Zelengaj. 

elevated psBbm Mama once described heaven  as “ where the ray’s of God’s light shines with warmth and an indescribable beauty amongst fields and fields of flowers.  The air was filled with a sense of peace and tranquility.” Our mama, Baka and praBaka was born for heaven where our common homeland is.
