Art started at Hamilton Public Health as a student and then moved to Peel. I have known Art for well over 30 years from the day he started at Peel … both as a good friend and as his supervisor at Peel. We were proud of Art in 1984 as he went back to school at Ryerson and graduated in the first Environmental Health degree class.
Art was known as a hard worker, most reliable and a dedicated professional to his work in all general programs but had a special interest in entomology and insect identification as a licenced Pest Control operator. He will be dearly missed as he was Peel’s expert and lead identifier of mosquitoes (West Nile) and ticks (Lyme’s Disease). Art really enjoyed the job and was always eager to share his work experiences and expertise with colleagues. I always enjoyed taking a break from a busy morning to enjoy a coffee and comradery with Art.
Art always enjoyed doing after hours work, special assignments and was always eager to take on call shifts during holidays. He enjoyed doing inspections at the multicultural festival Carabram and after his work was completed, he would often visit the Italian Pavilion with his wife and family and enjoy his favourite dish porchetta with of course some libation.
Art also really enjoyed the outdoors and he always encouraged both his twin sons to follow in his footsteps with his passion of outdoor sports. Art was an avoid sports fisherman both on land, on the water and on ice. One of the best stories was when Art and his son Vytas were both ice fishing on a small local Brampton subdivision pond. They were approached loudly by both Brampton Fire (with sirens) and local By-Law Officers and asked them to immediately vacate the pond as it was against the rules. By-law also issued him a ticket. One year Art also won the largest Pike caught in an ice fishing tournament on Island Lake in Orangeville.
Also associated with Art’s love of angling was his other passion – taxidermy. Each year you would expect Art to be at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show with his taxidermy items entered in the taxidermy contest and of course he normally came away with a ribbon or two, which he would proudly show off in the office. This passion also was picked up by Vytas who has followed his dad into the taxidermy hobby and has also had success in showing his talent at the Sportsmen’s Show.
Art will be dearly missed by all, but his impact and great memories will live on. Sincere condolences to his family.
Ralph and Wendy Stanley

Carm, Vytas and Joseph: I send my condolences to you. I remember the smiles every time Carm met up with Art, then married, then as man and wife moved to Brampton, then had 2 beautiful twin boys who’ll soon become responsible grown men! You’ll always have Art’s humour and fond memories with you!

Dearest Carmelina, Vystas, and Joseph,
My heart breaks for you. Art always spoke about the three of you to me monthly. Family first, he would remind me and something we often talked about. His wealth of knowledge and conviction for our profession and passion, was respected and admired. He impacted so many PHIs and students for years. I am personally grateful I had the opportunity to work with him. He will be deeply missed on our team and never forgotten.
We got you❤️

So sad to receive this news at such a late date. My condolences to the family. Art was such a great friend at Ryerson, we laughed constantly, particularly at his dry sense of humour.
