elevated b2xCX Obituary

elevated b2xCX Patrick Au passed away peacefully on June 22, 2023 surrounded by his family at the age of 82. Patrick had thrived through the pandemic for 3-1/2 years, very cautiously and staying home most of the time.  He had flared up twice in June 2022.  He was resuscitated twice and survived another year under palliative care at home.  May be is the will of GOD this time that he should go.  Just in a short ten days after he contracted COVID when he tested positive on June 12, having been admitted to hospital twice, he left on June 22, 2023.

elevated b2xCX Patrick was born in October 1941 in Hong Kong.  About two months later, Hong Kong was invaded and occupied by the Japanese in December.  Like many of Hong Kong inhabitants, his parents followed the flow and moved to inland China during the Japanese occupation.  They returned to Hong Kong after the war and settled ever since.

elevated b2xCX Patrick graduated from the Hong Kong Technical Collage (the present Hong Kong Polytechnic University) with a higher diploma in Surveying and Building Technology.  He joined the Hong Kong Government as Building Surveyor in 1965 and was awarded the title of Chartered Surveyor in 1969 from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in England after proof of professional practices prescribed by the Institute.  Eventually promoted to one of the Directorate staff in the Building Department.  He was the Chairman of the Professional Training Board for many years before he retired from office in 1988.

elevated b2xCX Patrick and his family immigrated to Canada and worked with an old acquaintance for the development and management of commercial properties until 1993 where Toronto was in deep recession and work was difficult to secure.

elevated b2xCX With the help of a friend, Patrick ventured back to Hong Kong and was able to find a position in one of the largest property development company, Sun Hung Kei Properties.  His position was Assistant to Chairman, helping the Chairman to liaise with various disciplines to produce developments for sale and lease that were praised by the market, etc.  The job was both interesting and challenging.

elevated b2xCX Patrick retired from Sun Hung Kei Properties in April 2004 and returned to Toronto.  Since then, he spent much of the time traveling with his wife, covering both the tours and sea cruises.  With his spare time, he joined the Carefirst Foundation as a volunteer helping the old folks.  His volunteer work stopped in mid-2011 due to his sudden hospitalization where he stayed for more than eleven weeks.

elevated b2xCX Patrick was fortunate that his illness did not deter him from traveling.  He kept on his tours with more times spent on cruise ships.

elevated b2xCX At home, he joined a church group called Golden Age Club where he met many good Christians and had fun to meet together every week for a variety of activities.  This was stopped abruptly due to the COVID pandemic and his later deterioration in health.
