Joseph Stephen Voon Teik Lee passed away peacefully and comfortably with his family around him in his 85th year on Thursday July 13 at 1:30pm (EDT) at the Brantford General Hospital, Brantford, Ontario, Canada.

Beloved husband to Christine for 57 years.  Loving father to Jeanette (Vito Carcuro) and Jonathan (Aloysia) and grandfather to Johanna (Omar Nouhi) and Monika Pinto Lee.  Dear brother to Margaret, Monica (Henry Paul), Mary (Michael Yuen), Rosalind, Peter (Grace) and Andrew (Geraldine). Uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews in Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, UK, and USA.

Born on December 4, 1938 in Ipoh, Malaysia, he completed his A Levels at St. Michael’s Institution, Ipoh graduating as a School Head Prefect, Queen’s Scout, member of the Royal Life Saving Society (UK) with a Bronze Medallion and instructor’s certificate, and Merit Certificate for Outward Bound School.

He attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, UK for officer training and served honorably in the Malaysian Army as an Armoured Officer, obtaining a pilot’s license from the Air Training Corp., participating in active duty during the Malaysian/Indonesian Conflict, completing a tour of duty with the United Nations Forces in the Congo, receiving the Kedah Distinguished Service Star for Military Operations, and achieving the rank of Major.

In May 1971, he immigrated to Canada for a better life for his family and was a former employee of Metropolitan Life, SwimQuip, Encyclopedia Britannica, Phillips Electronic Industries, Magna International and RolyKit Canada.  At the age of 49, he retired to travel and hike exotic locations like the Himalayas, Nepal and Swiss Alps and train for the Boston Marathon which he completed in 1995.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Brantford General Hospital for their compassionate care.
