elevated 24CDa Ignac Skalic, 92, of Scarborough, Ontario, passed away peacefully at home, on September 14, 2023. Ignac was a beloved husband to Maria and devoted father to Nick (Hania), Stephen (Monica) and Anne Marie (John) and an admired Oča to Stephanie, Jessica, Rebecca, Nicole, Carmen, Rachel, Madeline, Matthew and Jonathon. Ignac was blessed to be a Great Oča to Bentley, Peyton, Teegan and Grace

elevated 24CDa  Ignac was born in Mala Polana, Slovenia and the youngest of three boys.  When he was 19 years old, he enlisted into the Slovenian Navy for two years.   Shortly thereafter, he made the courageous decision to leave Slovenia, and convinced the love of his life, Maria, to come with him to Canada.  After a long and unpredictable trip across the ocean via the MS Arosa Star, they landed in Halifax and made their way to Toronto.  Upon arrival, Ignac was quick to find any kind of employment he could obtain in order to put a roof over their heads.  Ignac held several jobs until he found a permanent job as a professional commercial painter with Accord Painting.   Ignac quickly became a dedicated foreman and leader in his long successful painting career of 39 years.

elevated 24CDa  Ignac and Maria were married in 1957 and purchased their first home on Melville Avenue in Toronto, where they opened their door to many Slovenian immigrants.   After several years working hard and saving every penny, Ignac and Maria had the opportunity to move north of Toronto into a newly built home on Collingsbrook Boulevard,in Agincourt, where they made it their forever home and raised their three wonderful children.  Family truly meant everything to him and he was continuously demonstrating his loyalty as a husband, father and grandfather.

elevated 24CDa Lifelong experiences were a top priority to Ignac.  His involvement and support in sports and dance programs with the kids are memories that will be forever cherished.  Sunday’s were a family ritual attending church and backyard bbq parties with family and friends.  The Skalic family gatherings continued to expand to a new location – Cottage life in Willow Beach, Jacksons Point, where he spent the most satisfying and memorable 36 years of his life enjoying food, drinks, gardening and always in great company with family, friends and his wife Maria always by his side.  After retiring,  Ignac and Maria soon found out that “All Inclusive” and “Hot sunny weather” in the Southern hemisphere were a pretty good thing.  Travel then became a necessity for them to discover new places, and create memorable times with friends and family.

elevated 24CDa  Ignac was always humble, generous and very devoted. He and his family demonstrated being loyal parishioners within the Slovenian and English church community. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, compassion, generosity and open door policy. 

elevated 24CDa Ignac will be missed forever by his wife, his children, family and friends and his loss will leave a void that cannot be filled.
