elevated WwaRW Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Nevio DiGenova on January 23, 2024, a man whose life journey was as remarkable as it was inspiring.

elevated WwaRW Born on January 3, 1934, in the picturesque valleys of San Benedetto Dei Marsi, L’Aquila, Italy, Nevio was the son of Francesco and Maria Di Genova (née Cordischi), and brother to Lina, Gigino, Nevra, and Egeo. His early years were spent in the rugged mountains of Abruzzo, where, from the tender age of 13, he embraced the life of a shepherd. This demanding role not only ingrained in him the virtues of hard work and resilience but also deepened his connection to his homeland’s natural beauty and traditions.

elevated WwaRW Nevio’s spirit of service was further exemplified at the age of 18 when he joined the Esercito Italiano, contributing to Italy’s post-World War II reconstruction. It was during these formative years that he honed his skills as a butcher, a craft passed down from his father, laying the foundation for his future endeavours.

elevated WwaRW In a moment reminiscent of a classic love story, Nevio’s life took a turn in 1957. While purchasing wheat, he was captivated by a photograph of a merchant’s daughter, Concetta, who was then living in Canada. His determination to win her heart saw him penning letters across continents, ultimately leading to their first meeting in Italy in 1958. Their connection was undeniable, and within three months, Nevio and Concetta were married, setting the stage for a lifetime of love and companionship.

elevated WwaRW The couple’s journey took them to Canada, where Nevio’s entrepreneurial spirit flourished. Together, they raised three children—Francesco, Marietta, and Alfredo—while successfully operating their butcher stores. Nevio’s hard work and dedication not only provided for his family but also taught them the invaluable lessons of perseverance and commitment.

elevated WwaRW Nevio’s success afforded him the luxury of reconnecting with his roots. Each summer, he would close his shop and return to his beloved hometown in Italy with his family. In his native town, he was revered as “il Giudice” and “Gialdone,” a testament to the respect and admiration he garnered. His achievements in Canada were mirrored in Italy, where he built a villa, a symbol of his accomplishments and his deep connection to his birthplace.

elevated WwaRW Upon retiring at 55, Nevio embraced a bicontinental life, splitting his time between Toronto and Italy with his adored wife, Concetta. His strength of character was evident until his final days, living life on his terms, marked by a charming wit that endeared him to all.

elevated WwaRW Nevio leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. He is survived by his devoted children, Francesco, Marietta, and Alfredo; his loving grandchildren Gustavo, Andrea, Natasha, Cassandra, Francesco, Stefania, Damiano, and Krystina; and his cherished great-grandchildren Mia, Max, and Jack. He is also fondly remembered by his son-in-law Geri, and daughter-in-laws Mirella, and Carmelina.

elevated WwaRW In joining his late wife, Concetta, to whom he was devotedly married for 62 years, Nevio DiGenova’s story remains a testament to a life well-lived, marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering spirit. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

elevated WwaRW Memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
