elevated 5p5rL Obituary
elevated 5p5rL With huge broken hearts, we wish to share the sudden passing of Joe Spineto on March 26, 2024 at the age of 76.
Joe was born in Civitanova Del Sannio, Italy, and came to Canada with his mother when he was a young boy. He quickly adapted to life in Canada. He developed a love for sports and excelled at track and football.
elevated 5p5rL At the age of 10, he met his soulmate Teresa through family relationships. They were blessed with 51 years of marriage. Joe was a very loving husband. He was an amazing, devoted father, coach and mentor to Angela (Mitchell) and a boastful, loving, proud Nonno to Peppi (Giuseppe) and Dante. He was a dependable brother-in-law to Rosina, Nino, Joe, Phyllis and Nella.
elevated 5p5rL Joe will be with his parents, Michele and Angelina, and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, John, Tony, Tony, Tettina and Pauline. Our prayer is that they will all be reunited in heaven.
elevated 5p5rL He was a friend, an adviser, and a much-admired uncle to his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great-niece. He will be remembered by many family and friends as a caring person they could always rely on.
elevated 5p5rL Joe’s career trajectory took several turns. He retired from his work as a project manager in restoration. A job he loved. Joe was a pillar in the community. He served as a school board trustee for the York Region Catholic District School Board. Joe also had a passion for basketball. He was one of the founding directors of the York South Silver Knights Basketball Club, a long-time coach and a respected official for over 30 years. He has mentored and touched the hearts and lives of many players over the years.
Joe had many interests. He loved fishing, gardening, boating and carried on the traditions of making sauce, sausage and wine. He loved life. Joe’s greatest joy was the moments he spent with those he loved. Let us hold onto those moments.
elevated 5p5rL The family requests that no flowers be sent. If desired, consider a donation to Jumpstart, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any organization of your choice.

Teresa and Angela & family,
I am so sorry for your terrible loss.
I’ll remember Joe as a friendly, helpful, involved member of our wonderful OLR community .
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this awful sadness.
Joe was truly a natural caring transparent human being, a loving sharp straight shooter. I am grateful that I got to bond with him
in our much earlier younger days on fishing trips.
My deepest condolences to Teresa and all of Joe’s family.
Our deepest sympathies from the York Region Association of Basketball Officials. Joe was a fine man, a very good friend and a great official. We will miss him dearly.
My deepest sympathies and condolences for his family. I remember Joe and I coaching our daughters together over 30 years ago and how he would alway “take one” for the team or me (Joe, you know what I mean). Riposo in Pace.
My condolences to the family. May Joe rest in peace. You will be missed greatly. I am so grateful I had the chance to speak with Joe recently, after a few years.
He was a wonderful and loving human being, and a passionate coach who helped so many of us elevate our game on the court, but also helped us grow off the court.
RIP Coach
It is very hard to express our feelings of loss in this difficult time. It is unreal that a person so well respectéd, and looked up to is no longer with us. We have the memories of him that will never leave us, and the works that he did, and the people that he touched with his kind and loving demeanor. Da tutti noi, I tuoi cugini qui a Montreal ne siamo attristati e che Dio vi possa auitare in questi momenti difficili ..
Con profondo tristezza nei nostri cuori
La Familia di GIanni Spineto

May the Soul of Joe rest in peace.
Met Joe while coaching baseball.
He was a devoted friend, father and passionate about his community. Our relationship continued into his years as school trustee, during which many positive developments emerged at St Elizabeths.
Joe you have left your mark.
May Our Lord have mercy on your Soul and Grant you eternal rest, till we meet again.
Coach Joe introduced me to coaching which has become my life’s passion. I am forever grateful our paths crossed. The deep relationship he built with his players and their families was inspiring. My sincere condolences to Joe’s extended family.
My deepest and most heartfelt condolences. (Friend from the old neighbourhood)
We are so sad to hear of Joe’s passing our deepest condolences we will keep him in our thought and prayers
I will always remember the fantastic personality of Joe. He was my high school buddy both on the field and off. He was the athlete and I was part of the support group of Bloor C.I. athletics. We lost touch when he went on to Waterloo, but thankfully reconnected through basketball officiating. Our interactions through Facebook, about making wine, and sauce and his fishing pictures will be missed for sure. We were all blessed by his presence in our lives.
My deepest condolences to the family. He will be missed. Especially by his BCI family. His memory be eternal.
Condolences Teresa to you and your family .Joe will be missed by all his friends from Bloor Collegiate. God bless you
Our heartfelt deepest condolences Teresa and Angela and families. I always enjoyed talking with Joe at a wedding or family gathering he was such a great person he will be sadly missed xoxo
Joe was a much-loved part of our Bloor Collegiate ‘68 class. We very well remember his and Teresa’s generous hosting of a class reunion at their place a few years ago. My condolences to Teresa and your family. We will miss Joe greatly for his humour and his kindness.
While not knowing Joe beyond our common YRABO family, I always enjoyed officiating with him during the 12 years we spent together. Joe was the kindest man, both off and on the court, that one could have worked with; and I am certain that he was the same in both his family and work life.
RIP, Joe.
My deepest condolences to the family. Good speed Joe.
My sincerest condolences to Teresa and family. Joe was part of my fond memories from Bloor Collegiate. I am deeply moved by hearing of his passing. I am lost for words. May his great memory live on forever.
Teresa and Angela and family
My deepest condolences may god give you strength during this tough time.
Dear Teresa and family. Sending you my deepest condolences on the loss of your wonderful husband and father. He truly was such a nice guy and we always enjoyed being in your company Wishing you and your family only good things in life
To the Spineto family,
We were shocked and so saddened to hear about Joe’s untimely passing. He was a wonderful and kind-hearted coach and mentor who touched the lives of so many young people, including our two girls. He was kind, understanding, and most of all, a true ambassador for youth through the Silver Knights program. He championed these kids, challenged them to be better players on the court and better people off. He genuinely cared for all of them and will be sorely missed – his legacy will live on through the hundreds of kids whose lives he impacted and who had the honor of playing for Coach Joe.
With our deepest sympathies – Matt, Lara, Zoe and Jillian Appleton
Joe and I used to run together when we were in school we were friends and I considered him a friend to this day. When we would chat always he mentioned his wonderful family and he thanked god for his blessings there was never a more true friend it hurts my heart to think this kind soul is gone. My heart breaks for you and your family.
Great guy. Helped me out early on in my teaching career when he was a trustee. Always enjoyed officiating with him and the banter that came with that. I will miss him and wish to express my condolences to his family. I will offer up a prayer for the repose of his soul.
Dear Teresa, Angela and family. My family and I send you our deepest condolences during this difficult time. I got to know Joe about 15 years ago as a coach at Silver Knights basketball. All 3 of my children played rep ball with the club as well. No matter how busy he was, Joe would always take the time to converse with us, joke around, and be there to encourage and support us in any way he could. He was a tremendous ambassador of the game of basketball as a coach, referee, and club director. I will miss our conversations about basketball and life in general. He would always end our conversations on the phone by saying “Ok kid”, even though I’m in my mid 50s :). I will miss that too. As someone mentioned before, he was a straight shooter, but more importantly, he had a heart of gold. Thanks for all that you have done to make this world a better place for all of us.
May you Rest In Peace, Joe.
Sheryl and David

My deepest condolences to Teresa, Angela and Family. Dearest Teresa, words cannot convey how my heart is aching for you right now. Circumstances did not allow me to be by your side and to give you a big hug but please know that I with you in spirit. Hold on to each other and find strength in your love and happy memories of Joe. We will keep you in our prayers.
We are sending our heartfelt condolences to the Spineto Family. Joe was a very special coach – that perfect balance of care, knowledge, and the ability to have fun. Kathleen has only the fondest memories of her time with the Silver Knights, and Joe was certainly instrumental in fostering that feeling.

I will never have a better friend than Joe Spineto. A lifetime of memories, spanning almost 60 years, from our days at BCI, putting the school newspaper together in his basement close to his father’s wine barrel, to those golden summer days at his cottage at Wasaga, helping me build my deck and finishing my basement — just being there when I needed help, advice or just to talk. I think for both of us, we were the brothers we had lost when we were young. Love you, Joe, and you were so full of love — especially for Teresa, despite all your jokes, and such a good loving dad to Angela and the best nonno to her children. May angels carry you on their wings to eternal rest, my friend.
Teresa and Angela
My deepest condolences on the passing of Joe. I have many fond memories of him as an integral part of the OLR family and an active coach and referee for many years. He was always so friendly and positive with the players.
From our family to yours, our deepest condolences. Words fail us. We think about you, Teresa, Angela, Mitch and the boys and hope that you find strength and courage to face this difficult trial. Joe was a kind, caring and beautiful human being. He will be missed. 💐🙏
Through life’s journey of love, loss, sorrow and hardship, do we truly understand the meaning of being blessed.
Blessed by family, friends, memories and the laughter we have shared in those waking moments.
Joe was a kind soul. I will always remember his presence and how at ease I felt being around him. My heart aches that he will not get to experience the triumph and growth of sweet Dante and Pep during the growing moments of their life, but I know, he will be watching over them with a smile and proudness.
My deepest condolences go out to the entire family and my sister Angela. The relationship you had with your father will never falter or fade but only be more present now than ever in your heart and mind. Remember, he loved you and was proud of you.
Life’s greatest gift is the moments we share with those that we love.
Love always,
Lindsay
With great sorrow I extend my deepest sympathy, to the Family. Joe and I attended Bloor Collegiate in the 1960’s and were on the football team, the Bombers later called the Boor Golden Bears. Joe played offensive right or left Flanker. I was the offensive left Guard. We were a combination to reckon with. Joe was also great in Track, as well as many other sports. We communicated in the Bloor Facebook site over the last few years and hoped to meet for coffee. Joe was a good Friend and Teammate. I extend to you my deepest condolences.
REST IN PEACE JOE. GOD BLESS.
Our deepest Condolences to the Spineto family and friends from the Schirripa family!!
