elevated RRz91 Obituary
We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Loretta Hickey (nee Glavine). Loretta was born in Buchans, Newfoundland to Eric and Alice (nee Cooke) Glavine. She had 8 siblings, Denis, Gert, Bea, Joe, Tom, Terry, Mary, and her twin sister Lucy.
elevated RRz91 She is predeceased by her husband William Hickey (d. September 2021) and George LaFave (d. June 1984)
elevated RRz91 Loretta is survived by her children Teresa (Harold), George (Patti), Paul and Bowen (Kim). Stepchildren, Linda, Philip (Cheryl), Tammy (d.) and Adele (d.) (Ralph).
elevated RRz91 Adored Grandmother to Jasmyn, Taylor, Andrew, Sarah, Blake, Avarie, Liam, Rose, April, William, Philip, Christina, Jim, Jack, Justus, and Austin. Great Grandmother to Bronson, Aubrey, Jack, Mick, Madison, and Alec.
elevated RRz91 Loretta’s life was one filled with love for her family, and for those whose lives she touched.
elevated RRz91 In 1967 George and Loretta moved to Jackson’s Point, Ontario, joining his sister Marilyn and John Rae. This is where she met her longtime friend and confidant Ruth Mahoney.
elevated RRz91 While raising her children as a single parent, Loretta worked at TD Bank and later at Texas Instruments. Volunteering was always close to her heart – she dedicated her time to supporting her church and contributing to other causes such as the Suicide Prevention Call Centre, helping young mothers, and working with the local hockey league and food banks.
elevated RRz91 She met her husband Bill, first as friends, with their kids going to the same school. They later reconnected, married, and started their beautiful life together. They were soulmates, supporting each other throughout the good times and bad. There were many trips with Gert and John, Lucy and Vince and Jimmy and Louise.
elevated RRz91 Bill provided exceptional, compassionate care for her when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He couldn’t have tried harder or loved her more. Her children are forever grateful for the love and care he provided for her. May their dance continue for all eternity.
elevated RRz91 Many people knew her as Loretta, Lollypop, Loll, Aunt Loll, sister, twin, Grandma, friend, sister-in-law, coworker, Lieutenant LaFave. But we, Teresa, George, Paul, and Bowen were the luckiest of all, because we got to call her “mom”. Love you mom, to the moon and back.
elevated RRz91 In Memory of Loretta Hickey, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Here are some organizations Loretta supported in the past:
- Alzheimer’s Society
- Rose of Sharon (Services for Young Mothers

I will always remember Loretta (Lollypop) infectious Laugh. She always appreciated my goofy sense of humor so anytime we spoke I made sure to say something silly to hear that laugh.
Rest in Peace Beautiful Lady. Your in a better place now. Love Nancy🌹
Teresa, George, Paul, Bowen, my condolences to all of you. From when I first moved to Jackson’s Point and met your mom as a 10 year old punk (hanging with Paul), it was quite evident she was a very special lady…caring I would say to anyone who came upon her door step.
My aunt Loretta was one of the kindest, level headed person that I ever knew and there is a huge void now she is gone. Thanks for the memories.
Teresa, I am so sorry for your loss. I loved your posts about your visits with your mom…..what always stood out, was her beautiful smile. I know how hard it is to care for someone that you love so much and to lose them. I pray for you and your incredible family. Hope i get to see you soon my friend.
I will always remember Aunt Loretta with long painted nails, lipstick, a warm hug and a smile that lit up a room. She is a fond memory in my childhood and was always a soft place to land. As I raised my boys I thought of her often and wondered how she did it all. Life was full and wonderful because of her family. I hope we are all able to capture a small piece of this while Aunt Loretta captures something new in a place we have yet to know. Thank you to Paul, Bowen, George, and Teresa for sharing their mom with the rest of us.
Deepest condolences.
I am so saddened to know that my sweet Sister-in-law has passed away. I know in my heart, that now she is in heaven and at peace with our dear Saviour. I have very very fond memories of and with her. She was married to My Brother George LaFave and had four fantastic children. They lived in Jackson’s Point and I did for a few years. I was pretty close to all of them and spent some quality time being there. Loretta had the best smile and laugh of anyone I know or have known. I loved to hear her laugh. She laughed with all of her being. For sure, we both laughed at each other. Teresa, Paul, George, and Bowen were very close to their Mom and I always loved to see pictures posted on Facebook of the LaFave clan. Their lives are forever changed with the loss of their Mother.
