elevated e2f0A It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Nino Anjelo Sergo at the age of 93, on May 17, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Centre. He is survived by his loving wife Ljubica of 64 years, children Sonia (Nick), Sindy (Danny), grandchildren Nicole, Eric, Aaron and Gabriel, sister Valeria, brothers Milan, Louie, Mario, Edo as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Carlo, Josip and Boris.
elevated e2f0A Nino was born on October 11, 1930 in the small village of Dolenja Vas, Istra (Croatia). He was the second of nine children, eight brothers and one sister. In 1956 together with his oldest brother Carlo they left their homeland behind in the pursuit of a better life in Italy. From there they continued on to Paris, France where he met and married the love of his life on January 30, 1960. The young couple soon welcomed their first child Sonia and chose to immigrate to Canada in 1961 to begin their new life as a family. He was a devoted and proud Canadian and was grateful for the abundant opportunities that Canada provided. Once they established their life in Canada they welcomed their second daughter Sindy in 1968.
elevated e2f0A Nino was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, gardener, winemaker and could “McGyver” just about anything. The family cottage on Coon Lake in the Kawarthas was his home away from home and he enjoyed sharing this special place and creating memories with family and friends, especially with his four grandchildren. He was the kind of person who would never hesitate to lend a helping hand no matter the circumstances. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, devotion to family, loyalty to friends and neighbours and he will be greatly missed.
Uncle Nino was a wonderful person. He was a loving father and grandfather. So many childhood memories of spending time with him at his cottage. Always in my memories, heart and soul. God Bless. May you rest in peace.
Our family’s prayers go out to you and your family Sonia.
