Marilena and Amanda,
It’s still hard to believe. Carolyn and I, and the whole Wakefield Place neighbourhood is in shock. Mike will be greatly missed.
We are all grieving with you and offer our continuous support as you find your way through this awful and challenging time.
Our door is always open.

A sad loss. I worked with Mike with both the North York Fire Fighters and Toronto Fire Fighters Associations. His caring and attention to our brothers and sisters needs were second to none.
From reading the other messages it seems that Mikes caring was distributed throughout his family and friends as well.
My Captain, my mentor, my friend. Your encyclopedia like knowledge of everything union will be greatly missed along with that big booming laugh. I cannot put into words how much I have learned from you over the years. Thank you. Rest easy my friend, we have it from here.
Mike worked in Fire Prevention at NYFD Stn. 16 in the 1990’s when I meet him. Mike was always very pleasant and had a warm smile and greeting for all he interacted with. In his down time he would practice martial arts and his skill sets were obvious and juxtaposed his gentle nature. His support of his brother and sister firefighters was exemplary.
Mike will be missed by all that knew him. Condolences to his family and friends. RIP Mike.
I was taken back by today’s announcement. Mike was a great guy to work with at North York Fire Dept and Toronto Fire Service. He will be sadly missed. My condolences go out to the family.
I had the great pleasure of being in the same class as Mike, with North York fire. When I needed Fire prevention advise I just gave him a call, and my question was alway answered, And a laugh.
My sincere condolence to his family.
I knew Mike when I transferred into Stn. 145 & was met with a warm welcoming smile. I would always say hi to him when I came on duty & often went into his office for Fire Prevention issues that I came across. He was always very helpful. He was always friendly to me in my short time there. I also knew Marilena as they grew as couple in the job. As someone early said he will also be missed by neighbours. Marilena, I so sorry for your sudden loss. My sincere condolences to Marilena & her & Mike’s families.
It’s a sad day when such a very nice person leaves us. Mike had a large influence on so many of us in the fire service. He was smart, knew his job well, was always available for advice, friendly with a great laugh….just a really nice man.
We’ve all lost something with Mike’s passing. Condolences to all.
I was very sad to hear of Mike’s passing. Mike and I worked together at Stn 16 in North York. As noted above, I think one of the things that impressed me the most about Mike was his passion. Mike dedicated many hours to helping injured firefighters with their WSIB cases. He really cared about people.
Marilena, my heart goes out to you and Amanda during this difficult time.
Condolences to Mike’s entire family from Gene a.k.a. Dobie Gillis. Mike and I first crossed paths the day he was assigned to 11 station fire prevention (1990). I always admired Mike for his stedfast belief in supporting all of his brothers and sisters of the North York Fire Department. R.I.P
I first met Mike when I started at 145. He would always be in the kitchen at the start of a shift and always talking about something. I will miss the conversations that we had about anything and everything. Mike you will be dearly missed my friend. Condolences to his family and friends.
Tristissima notizia , partecipiamo al dolore della mia cara cugina . Condoglianze anche dai miei familiari
Marilena & Amanda
I am sorry for your losses. May you both find comfort in the everyday memories that you all made together.
He participated and enjoyed life to the end.
Mike was the best Captain I had. He was a great mentor, personally and professionally. My sincere condolences to Marilena, Amanda and the rest of the family. Rest in Peace Brother.
I met Mike at Station #145 where I worked for 12 years. Mike was a fixture upstairs sharing morning coffee and his many words of wisdom to all. He was full of good common sense info and had a passion for what he did and cared for those he worked with. RIP Mike, you were a real one!
Mike, a man of conviction, intelligence, wisdom and humor was a man of quality. This was readily apparent to anyone who met him. Our deepest heartfelt condolences for Marilena, Amanda, and their family. God Bless – Laura and Carlo Abballe
Marilena and Amanda, our sincerest condolences. May he rest in peace. Thinking of you today, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Sending you lots of Love, Peter, Antonietta and Marta Li Calzi.
