elevated 2DVOZ Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest Joaquim Alberto Carvalho Valverde. God called onto Joaquim on Saturday, July 27, 2024 and he passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto.

Joaquim was born in the picturesque region of Alentejo, Portugal. From a young age, his work ethic was evident as he began his working life at just six years old, guarding turkeys in the pasture. This early start to responsibility and hard work would define the rest of his life.

Joaquim married and raised his family while working as a groundskeeper on a large estate near Lisbon, where he diligently cared for the land and all the animals. His dedication to his work and his family was unwavering, and he took great pride in his role.

In 1987, a year after the passing of his beloved wife Maria Ismênia , Joaquim made the decision to move to Canada to live with his daughter. Here, he continued to work as a laborer in construction, bringing the same commitment and skill to his new role. He also went to school for the first time to learn how to read and write thereby fulfilling a lifelong dream of his. After retiring from construction, Joaquim found joy and purpose in gardening, fixing bicycles, and making traditional foods from his homeland of Alentejo, keeping his cultural heritage alive and sharing it with those around him.

Joaquim Valverde’s life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and love for family. He will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, his generosity, and his ability to bring a piece of Alentejo to Canada through his culinary skills and gardening talents.

Loving father of Ludovina (Jose), Jose (Aurita) and Antonio. Adored grandfather of Elisa (Aguinaldo), Diana (Paulo), Paulo and Tiago (Rosalyn). Cherished great grandfather of Lucas, Isaac, Sofia, Logan, Samuel, Daniel and Gabriel.

Joaquim will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his extended family and friends in Portugal and Canada. May he rest in peace.

In memory of Joaquim donations to St. Joseph’s Health Centre (st-josephs-health-centre-foundation-of-toronto | CharityProfile | Donate Online ) or flowers would be appreciated by his family.

Rest in peace, Joaquim. Your legacy of hard work and love will continue to inspire us all.
