elevated cp6UU It is with deeply saddened hearts that we share the news that Joao (John) de Abreu passed away early Monday morning on September 2nd, 2024. Joao was born on July 15th, 1941 in Porto da Cruz, Madeira Island, Portugal to the late Antonio de Abreu and Francisca Gomes de Jesus. He is survived by his soulmate and loving wife, Maria. He was a devoted father to Ydelso, Zita (Richard Hilmer), and Sandy (Mike Creador). A cherished grandfather to Cole, Imogen, Abigail, and Hannah. A loved brother-in-law, uncle, and cousin to a large family. Survived by siblings Maria and Joaquim and predeceased by siblings Celestino, Mateus, and Nazare.
elevated cp6UU In 1967, he moved to Canada with the assistance of his late parent-in-laws, Manuel and Adelaide Caldeira, to start a new life for his family from the ground up. He worked so hard and gave so much but never asked for anything in return. Canada was his new home but he never forgot his roots on Madeira Island by making frequent visits to spend time with family and friends. He enjoyed sharing his homemade wine made the traditional way and if you ever tried it, you know how good it was. He also embraced Canadian traditions by enduring watching the Toronto Maple Leafs trying to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs year after year.
elevated cp6UU He was known by many to be incredibly kind and generous. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

Love Joaquim & Angelina De Abreu & family
I met Joao and his family about four years ago; he was a great neibor, we had almost weekly talks over these years, and I feel deeply sorry to see him go, hopefully, to better pastures. RIP!
Mrs. Abreu, Yselso, Zita, Sandy (& Family),
May you feel his love everyday, may it guide you all until you see him again. It was a pleasure to know your father and yes, to taste his unforgettable wine. He was always warm and kind, like your entire family. My heart goes out to you ALL – love never dies.
Love,
Angela Comelli
Dear Zita,
I know how difficult this time is for you. I only met your father a few times, but he struck me as a very kind and gentle man.
You, your mother, Ydelso, Sandy — and Richard, Cole and Imogen — as well as your entire extended family have our sincerest condolences.
With sympathy,
Chris Hilmer and Jim Burns
Deepest condolences to you Ydelso and your family. Your friends are here for you. It is a difficult time but my experience is that time will heel things. Remember your dad and all his wisdom.
