elevated xG8Ek Obituary
elevated xG8Ek It is with deeply saddened hearts that we share the news that our beloved husband/daddy/papa Simon D’Cruz passed peacefully on October 18, 2024.
elevated xG8Ek Simon was born in Goa, India to his parents Anthony and Maryann D’Cruz. He was the eldest of his siblings; Monica, Louis, Vincent (deceased) and Francis (deceased). He spent his early years in Siolim, Goa and was primarily raised by his beloved grandmother, Maria Caitana D’Souza. Simon reminisced fond memories of her and even named his first-born daughter in remembrance of his Nana. Simon frequently reflected about his childhood, sharing stories of playing soccer, climbing trees to enjoy fresh fruit, and racing to watch the ships arrive at the port.
elevated xG8Ek Despite his humble beginnings and a life marked by challenges, Simon possessed a heart of gold until the very end. Simon was a figure of respect, admiration, and love to everyone who crossed his path. His humility set him apart; he never sought the spotlight or accolades, yet his actions spoke volumes about his character.
elevated xG8Ek Simon and Anna married in Karachi on January 29, 1972, at St Patrick’s Cathedral. Their union was blessed with four children, and later five grandchildren:
elevated xG8Ek Maria (Bertram)
elevated xG8Ek Malcolm (Sabika) – Zeraili, Zatasha, Dexter
elevated xG8Ek Melanie (Justin) – Jaxon, Emily
elevated xG8Ek Michelle (Jarrod)
elevated xG8Ek Simon enjoyed a lengthy career at Grindlays Bank, retiring after 38 years of dedicated service. Throughout his time there, he formed several friendships that continue to endure today. He later joined St. Patrick’s Technical School, forming further friendships and continued to work until he immigrated to Canada with his family. At the age of 74, Simon finally retired in Canada, marking the beginning of a new and fulfilling chapter in his life. He dedicated this time to cherishing moments with his grandchildren and showering them with unwavering love and affection. Simon found immense joy in being an active part of their lives, whether it was through storytelling, playing games, watching movies or going on walks and taking them to the parks.
elevated xG8Ek Known affectionately as “Uncle Simon” to many, he was a beloved figure in his community of family and friends, exuding kindness and generosity that touched countless lives. His selflessness and compassion were evident in every interaction, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. In addition to nurturing these precious relationships, Simon embraced technology by learning to navigate social networks. This newfound skill allowed him to stay connected with family and friends across the globe, bridging distances that might have otherwise separated them. He regularly shared updates, photos, and messages, ensuring that those he cared about felt his presence and love, no matter where they were.
elevated xG8Ek Despite never driving a car or riding a motorcycle, Simon never allowed these limitations to hinder his spirit. He embraced the world around him with determination, walking long distances and utilizing public transportation to reach his destinations. His resilience and resourcefulness were inspiring, demonstrating that one could navigate life’s challenges with grace and tenacity.
elevated xG8Ek His strong faith and devotion were the cornerstones of his existence. Simon lived a life guided by principles of love, kindness, and service, reflecting his deep spiritual beliefs. Over the years, Simon consistently shared his affection and wisdom with his loved ones. He will always hold a special place in the hearts of his family and will be fondly remembered by his extended family, siblings, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews as well as his many friends in Pakistan, Canada and around the world.
elevated xG8Ek On October 13th, a significant milestone was celebrated as he turned 94. This special occasion was marked by a heartfelt gathering of his immediate family, creating a warm and loving atmosphere. Surrounded by his devoted wife, children, and grandchildren, the celebration was not just a birthday party but a cherished family reunion.
elevated xG8Ek Simon’s life can be described as a vibrant tapestry woven from the threads of family bonds, cherished memories, and enduring connections. Each aspect of his life contributed to a rich narrative that reflects not only the experiences he had but also the relationships he nurtured along the way.

Our deepest sympathies to Anna & the entire D’cruz family from Brian, Janice & Chantelle Hope. May Simon’s soul rest in eternal peace Amen. Simon was a good friend of my parents as they worked together in Grindlay’s bank. They always kept in touch with one another. Simon was the only person who would call my dad regularly after my mom passed away in 2022. My dad was devastated but when Simon called he would be so happy & would talk to him for long periods of time. I hope all the friends are reunited now.
Uncle Simon exuded integrity and kindness. He walked me to kindergarten and early elementary years and those memories will be cherished forever. May his soul rest in Peace. Deepest condolences to the family.
Deepest sympathies Aunty Anna, Malcolm, Maria, Melanie, Michelle and your respective families. We are so saddened to hear of the passing of uncle Simon. He was a wonderful person, simple and down to earth, humble and always had a smile on his face. I have fond memories of him and how he used to walk me to and from school sometimes. We were glad to have the opportunity to have met him on our last visit to Toronto. We pray that you all may find courage and strength to bear this loss through the support and the love of family and friends and the wonderful memories he has left behind. May God grant him eternal rest in his Heavenly home. Amen with deepest condolences.
Pearl and John Gomes 🙏

Simon, you truly were a special person to me. I will never forget the time we shared all those years ago. I will always cherish those memories. Not only were you selfless, but you were very generous, kind, and loving to all of us. I will never forget how much you helped my mum ( your mother in law). Your presence in our family and in our lives bought so much joy and laughter. Your kindness and generosity touched our lives, and these memories will live with me, and I will cherish it forever.

Simon was a great person who we have known for many many years as we were neighbours back in Karachi. He was a great friend of my dad Abel as they worked for the same Bank.
Simon was a true gentleman with a big heart. He was kind, spiritual and gentle. Patrick and myself were truly happy when our son, Jarrod, met his youngest daughter Michelle in Sydney and love blossomed. We were thrilled to meet Simon and Anna at their wedding in Cancun, Mexico where we spent a lot of time with them. I corresponded with Simon thru messenger on a regular basis.
