elevated fsFzo Obituary
elevated fsFzo It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Galileo “Pete” Dalmazzi of Toronto, Canada, formerly Providence, Rhode Island, on November 9, 2024 at the age of 98. Pete was predeceased by his beloved wife Anna (Ragosta) and was a loving father to Richard and wife Linda, Peter and wife Caryl; “Papa” to grandchildren Paul and wife Aubrey, Lee and partner Liv, Thomas and wife Ashley, and Laura and husband Kevin; and “GeeGee” to great-granddaughter Eloise. He was also predeceased by brothers Mario and wife Doris, and Robert and wife Arlene, and leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families in Rhode Island.
elevated fsFzo At 18 Pete joined the U.S. Navy and served bravely as a Gunner’s Mate on the USS Libra in WWII, earning medals for his valour. After the war he began his career at Uncas Manufacturing, where he ascended to a senior position in the industrial engineering department. On Sundays Pete played early morning golf at Trigg’s, then attended mass at St. Bartholomew’s Church, then piled the family into the station wagon and headed to Scarborough beach.
elevated fsFzo In 1964 Pete’s job led the family to Toronto where he built a life filled with community, sports, and friendship with neighbours in Etobicoke, and through “Club Callie”, a close-knit circle of friends. As general manager at French Manufacturing, Pete was celebrated for his business acumen and his leadership. Pete and Anna relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida, Pete’s final career move, where they savoured the sunshine and the beaches before returning to Canada to be close to the boys and their young families.
elevated fsFzo In his later years, always-on-the-go Pete worked part-time at Zeller’s department store where he assisted senior customers and mentored young employees. He also volunteered at Credit Valley Hospital. Pete enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing racquetball with his buddies at the health club, which he did until he was 82.
By all who met him, Pete will be remembered by how he made them feel. He filled every room with stories and songs and laughter. His larger-than-life personality and ability to connect with people were his superpower. He was a one-of-a-kind spirit who will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
