It is with great sadness that the family of Remy William Paul Gauthier announces his passing. Remy was 75 years old.
elevated rIBhA Remy was born in Montreal, Quebec. He was the first child of Angel and Paul Gauthier. He spoke fondly of his childhood in Montreal and often relayed memories about his dog that walked him to and from school. His knack for science and math landed him in the gifted program, which accelerated his performance in school and his career. In 1974, he took a leap of faith and relocated himself to Toronto.
elevated rIBhA His career in financial planning blossomed in Toronto where he continued to work with Prudential Insurance Company. Many fond memories took place after work, such as Pac-Man at their local haunt, Hector’s. His colleagues quickly turned into lifelong friends, and he continued to create these bonds as he moved forward in his career. Remy retired at age 63 from Standard Life.
elevated rIBhA Remy was an adventurer; he looked forward to the days where he could explore the surrounding neighborhoods by bike. He loved to play the guitar – a true fan of disco, 70s rock, and the sounds of the 80s. He found comfort in a game or two of solitaire.
elevated rIBhA Remy enjoyed lengthy dinner table discussions on international affairs, history, and life’s biggest mysteries. He would try to solve most things by a mathematical equation! He will be remembered for his incredible wit and elevated sense of humour.
elevated rIBhA A large part of his time was spent watching his kids at soccer and karate practice, theatre and dance rehearsals. He enjoyed family activities such as card shows, festivals, and cottage stays. As a proud father and husband, he boasted about his family to anyone and everyone. This continued into his hospital stay where the nurses and doctors eventually knew all about them. 2024 marked his 40th wedding anniversary.
elevated rIBhA Predeceased by siblings Rebecca and Peter, and parents Angel and Paul. Survived by his wife, Jo-Anne, and children, Aaron (Zohrah) and Michele. Grandfather to Zack and Mia, and Uncle to Ryan, Deanna, Shawn, Paula and Victoria.

Very sad indeed. I was a colleague at Pru of England. We met rarely because I was based in Edmonton and Remy in Toronto. But for the few times we tipped a pint togerher, Remy left an indelible impression on me. He will be missed but never forgotten. My best wishes for Jo-Anne and family.
A close friend for over 40 years, we shared so many moments together- conferences, dinners with Remy and Joanne, in the audience for one of their children’s performances, baseball games, sitting in their back yard over a beer – the many things good friends do. A man who was so proud of his family that he always wanted to bring us up todate on what they had accomplished. A person we will miss, but so glad we knew him

My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. It’s never easy to find the right words when we lose someone so dear to us. Remy and I shared a friendship of over 50 years, beginning when he moved to Toronto with Pru and we became roommates. Those years at Graydon Hall, where we lived, were some of the best — they called us “The Odd Couple.” Remy was always much more organized than me and certainly a lot less crazy.
The “Boys from Pru” would show up for poker games, and those moments were full of laughter and good times. Our earlier days at Pru were something else — our office was far from conventional, and, well, there are a few stories best left untold! But every moment was filled with fun and memories I’ll always treasure.
Our friendship continued through the years, even when we worked at DST/Corfax. Remy always stayed in touch, keeping me updated on the Toronto crowd. I’ll always cherish our conversations.
The last time we spoke, about a year ago, Remy wanted to visit me. I had just undergone two back surgeries last year, so we didn’t get the chance to connect as we had hoped. I regret that now. I’m going to miss my dear friend and his calls, but I’ll keep him close to my heart forever.
As we grieve his loss, let us hold tight to the precious memories of his warmth, hospitality, and the joy he brought into our lives. His presence will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on in the moments we shared.
Remy may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. “Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and held so dear.” May we carry those loving memories in our hearts, forever.
Some day, we will meet again and share a wee toast. Until then, let us raise a glass in Remy’s honor — wishing him peace and celebrating the love he gave to us all.
To Remy — a friend, a brother, and a kind soul who touched our lives with his warmth and laughter. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will forever live in our hearts. Here’s to the memories we shared, the love he gave, and the moments yet to come when we will raise a glass to him once more. May he rest in peace, and may we always cherish the gift of his friendship.”
