It is with sorrowful hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the peaceful passing of Josephine S. Bart on November 13, 2024, at her home located in Mississsauga, Ontario at the age of 88. She was born in Trinidad & Tobago, November 29, 1935 to parents Richard and Maud Lezama.
elevated tkEi0 Josephine leaves behind her beloved husband Joseph Bart whom she met in Montreal, Canada while attending Mc Master University where she graduated from accounting. They were married for 61 years. Josephine was predeceased by some of her siblings and is survived by her sisters Nellie Ferguson and Ustavia Marshall. She was a loving Aunt to her many nieces and nephews and a mother figure to those when needed. Also a dear relative to her many cousins and a caring companion for her many friends. She prayed and kept everyone in her heart and always sent them blessings daily.
Before Josephine immigrated to Canada in 1959 she worked at the Store Bay Hotel in Tobago as a receptionist. Upon her arrival to Canada she worked as a domestic and after graduating university she moved to Toronto, Ontario with her husband and worked as a Nursing Assistant at both St. Joseph and Toronto Western Hospitals. While working there she was then able to locate an accounting job and fulfilled her dream.
She was an amazing wife, sibling and aunt who was an excellent chef and talented baker making the best homemade bread, sweet bread, black cake and her specialty carrot cake. She had a strong love of God and was part of the Catholic Women’s League, was a Eucharistic Minister and part of the RCIA women’s group all located at St. Patrick’s church in Mississuaga. With a giving nature she donated to many children charities. Her hobbies included travelling, shopping, gardening, casino trips, love of all things luxury (purses and her shoes). She had a zest for life and loved to go dancing with her husband. Her great sense of humour with the best stories of growing up in Trinidad and Tobago will be missed.
She loved spending time with family, always wearing a smile on her face. All special occasions and holidays meant the world to her and brought her great joy especially when she held the family Christmas dinner where she always made sure every child had a present to open. She was a loving and caring person devoted to always thinking of others first. With all things being yellow even her favourite song “The Yellow Rose of Texas” we all knew her favourite colour. To know her was to love and be loved by her.
It’s hard to say goodbye to someone who had a big impact on our lives. But if we keep those good memories in our hearts and minds, we can find comfort, and Josephine will always be with us.
Your thoughts and prayers are truly appreciated during this time of sorrow.

Auntie Jo, I am so grateful and blessed to have had you in my life. You were a mentor, a friend, a partner-in-crime, a cheerleader, and a supporter.” This poem conveys, what Auntie Jo meant to me.
What my aunt meant to me? (Modified)
“Aunts have no wands or wings,
So they work with wisdom, love, and things.
Having taken on this role,
You loved me right down to my soul.
You offered kindness
And greetings with a hug and kiss,
Each freely out of love which I will miss.”
“You’re in God’s Heavens now and no longer in pain,
In my thoughts, you’ll always remain.
How lucky I was,
How blessed I’ve been,
You were more than my aunt,
You were also my friend.”
I love you and miss you Auntie Jo.
