elevated 2ATFS Obituary

elevated 2ATFS Sau Ling Yung, beloved wife of Mr. Ka Chueng Fung (deceased), passed away on Monday November 11, 2024 at Parker of Somerset NJ at the age of one hundred.

elevated 2ATFS Mrs. Fung was born in the small Portuguese port colony of Macau in southern China in 1924. She was abandoned by her birth mother and left on the doorstep of a local law enforcement officer, Mr. Francisco da Silva. This gentleman and his wife raised her as their own but they both passed away around 1938 before Mrs. Fung reached fourteen years of age.

elevated 2ATFS Left alone again to fend for herself on the cusp of a tumultuous era in the region, she soon developed her steely resolution and indomitable spirit which would characterize the rest of her life.

elevated 2ATFS Mrs. Fung found her calling several years later when she was accepted into a nursing school in Macau where she graduated in 1948 and soon moved to Hong Kong. She met Mr. Fung at the Saint Paul Hospital in Hong Kong and the young couple married and raised their six children there.

elevated 2ATFS She loved to laugh and tell jokes. She was a devout catholic and was a very kind nurse to her patients. In her retirement she was able to travel with her husband, Ka Cheung Fung throughout The United States and Europe. Mr. and Mrs. Fung relocated to Toronto in 2000 to live with their eldest son Philip but was widowed in 2005. During her time in Toronto, she developed her interest in singing Cantonese Opera with a local group and enjoyed the yearly performances with her friends and teacher.

elevated 2ATFS In 2013 Mrs. Fung relocated to Somerset where she resided with her daughter, Julia. She met many new friends in Somerset and lived a healthy life. She was still practicing Tai-Chi daily until she was 95.

elevated 2ATFS She is survived by her children, Helen Jo and her husband Taeho, Rita Fung and her husband Simon Chow, Philip Fung and his husband Geoffrey Paterson, Julia Fung, Margaret Fung and her husband Victor Tam, and Charles Fung and his wife May. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica, Karen and Daniel Jo, Eric and Melanie Chow, Vivian and Michael Tam, Serenity and Stephen Fung, and her great grandchildren Maverick Tam, Theo Novak, and Reuben Novak.
