elevated LkqHu Obituary
Bernardita “Bernie” Abogado, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 18, 2025, with her beloved children, Ted Abogado and Betty Chartrand, by her side, after a courageous two-year battle with ovarian cancer.
elevated LkqHu Born in Manila, Philippines, Bernie lived a life filled with deep love, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family. For 63 beautiful years, she was the devoted wife and partner of Cesar Abogado — their bond a true example of enduring love and companionship. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home in Brampton, Canada, where they raised their children and watched their family grow.
elevated LkqHu Bernie’s greatest joy in life was being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother — or “Lola,” as she was affectionately known. Her love knew no bounds. She cherished every moment with her family, whether through heartfelt conversations, quiet moments at home, or joyous celebrations filled with laughter. Her nurturing spirit, constant support, and boundless affection shaped the lives of all that knew her. She is survived by her husband, Cesar, children, Ted (Kim) and Betty (Dan), and her treasured grandchildren, Corey, Niki, Kiana, and Chloe. Her love was a guiding light and her presence a source of comfort and strength.
elevated LkqHu She is also survived by her dear sister Maria Emilia Castro, and many nieces and nephews who will miss her kindness and grace. She was predeceased by her daughter, Maria “Malu,” her parents, Arturo and Consuelo Lumanlan, and her siblings Zenaida, Rafael, Elena, David, Cristino, and Arturo Jr.
elevated LkqHu A dedicated educator, Bernie graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and became a college teacher before immigrating to Toronto with her family in 1973. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University and proudly became the first Filipina teacher in the City of Brampton. She taught with passion and purpose at St. Jean Brebeuf Elementary School for 25 years, touching the lives of countless students with her warmth, wisdom, and commitment.
elevated LkqHu Though her accomplishments were many, it was Bernie’s unconditional love and fierce devotion to God and her family that defined her most. She will be remembered as a brave, selfless and compassionate soul whose legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved so deeply.

RIP Mrs Abogado.Mrs Abogado was my three children’s Kindergarden teacher.A very nice person and great caring teacher. Our condolences to her family.
I remember Mrs Abogado as the kinder teacher in the same room as my kinder class at St Jean Brebeuf back in the early 80s. I would have the joy of her being my actual teacher a few years later in grade 3. My younger self will always remember her as a gentle woman and an energetic educator. I will hold my memories of her fondly. My deepest condolences to her family.
