elevated XT1h2 Peacefully, at the age of 96, Anne Fundarek (nee Jasenec) passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022 at West Park Long Term Care Centre. Beloved wife of the late Rudy Fundarek and devoted mother to Monica (Karl Zimmermann), Cathy (John Medal), Steven (Marg) and Peter (Susan). Her loving legacy is passed on in her seven grandchildren – Kat, David, Michael, Richard, Thomas, Jessica and Matthew, and four great-grandchildren – Isabella, Alexandra, Cecilia and James. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Ernest and Apolena Jasenec, her brother, John and her nieces, Laurie and Susan and her nephew, John Jr. She will be deeply missed by her nephews, Martin and Paul, of Slovakia and her nieces, Elaine and Diane, of Ottawa and all their families.

Anne came to Canada from Slovakia as a young girl with her parents. She enjoyed her life with family and friends as she blended her Slovak heritage and Canadian life. She will always be remembered for her wonderful family dinners where we savoured her delicious meals and desserts. She often used her Slovak recipes and passed on Slovak traditions proudly. Anne was a loving and caring homemaker and she extended this beyond her home to her friends and neighbours. She was always kind in thought and had great generosity of heart. She was patient and an attentive listener. And she relished sharing a good joke – in English or Slovak. Anne enjoyed travelling and shared many wonderful trips with her family or with her friends. Anne had a fulfilling career as a dental receptionist and appreciated the chance to interact with people.

Mary and I were saddened by Mrs. Fundarek’s passing. She was such a warm and loving person. Because she and my mother were from the same village in Slovakia, our families always remained close over the years. She will be dearly missed.
Anne leaves behind a family who are filled with sorrow on one hand but joy on the other knowing that she will be with Rudy again. Her legacy is found in the hearts of her four children who were loyal and steadfast and all of whom adored their mom. She will be missed in Slovakia and Canada, but never forgotten. Anne leaves memories of the family dinners and auspicious occasions for her descendants to play back in memory, photos and videos. Cherish them and speak of her often. Friends are listening and care.
Your mom was a special person and a big part of your family life. She was a lovely lady and I’m sure is missed greatly by your family. Please know that our hearts are breaking for your whole family. Marg and Steven. Please take care. Thinking of you
Iain and I are so very sad to hear of Anne’s passing. We lived beside her on Brumell for almost 30 years and have so many good memories. She was a wonderful neighbour and friend. We are so grateful that she tolerated our children’s teen years with kindness and equanimity and always forgave them when they had been noisy into the wee hours.
Sadly, we will not be here to attend the service on the 4th, but please know that we will be thinking of her. Our heartfelt condolences to all the family.

Our condolences go out to all of your family at this difficult time. Anne was such a lovely person, and always so positive and wonderful to talk to. We were sad to see her move off the street but were happy in knowing that she was comfortable in her new home and that she was well cared for. Our family has many fond memories of Anne’s smile, stories of the old days on our street, and of course the beautiful baked goods that she always shared with us. Our children used to ask us “why we couldn’t make cookies as good as Baba Anne’s?!”
Anne was so proud of her family and we know how much she cherished the time she spent with everyone at the house together. We hope that her loving memory and legacy will bring you some comfort during this sad time.
