Ari Colaiacovo passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at the full age of 98. Ari, also known as Arino, died peacefully in his home.
elevated ONBYl Ari was born in Pratola Peligna, Abruzzo, Italy on September 4, 1923 to father Pelino Colaiacovo and mother Agata Pace Colaiacovo. He was the third of six siblings that helped on the family farm before serving in World War II. He was the last surviving sibling.
elevated ONBYl After his service in the war, Ari worked in France and in Venezuela before returning back to Pratola Peligna where he married Maria Zavarella Colaiacovo. They immigrated to Canada in 1955 with a young child and another on the way to start a family life in their final destination in Toronto, Ontario.
elevated ONBYl After working many construction related jobs, Ari took night classes to obtain a welder’s certificate, which was his last career before retiring in 1981. Ari was also instrumental in formulating an Italian social club representing the citizens of his birth town that lived in the Toronto area as a founding father in 1967.
elevated ONBYl Ari is survived by his sons Graziano Colaiacovo and Francesco Pelino Colaiacovo; daughter-in-law Agatha Colaiacovo; and granddaughter Vanessa Alexandra Colaiacovo.
elevated ONBYl The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation is kindly made to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario.
