It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Assunta on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the age of 87. Loving wife of the late Nicola. Cherished mother of Victoria McGowan (the late Michael), Teresa Tommasone, Tony Pileggi (Paola) and Robert Pileggi (Vittoria). Beloved Nonna of James (Amanda), Nicole (Alan), Michelle (Greg), Vincent, Nicholas (Yolanda), Susanne (Giancarlo), Anthony (Gabrielle), Martina and Nicolai. Proud Bis-Nonna to 10 beautiful great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Vito and Teresa Martino. Dearest sister to Angela (the late Vincenzo) and predeceased by her brothers Pasquale (Sara), Vincenzo (Teresa), Guerino (Elvira), Nicola (Donna), and sisters Caterina (the late Raffaele), and Maria (the late Angelo).
Assunta will be sadly missed by many relatives and friends.
Born in San Nicola Da Crissa, Vibo Valentia, Italy, Assunta came to Windsor, Ontario, in 1955 at the age of 21 with her husband, Nicola. They settled in Toronto in 1961 where they raised their four children. Assunta was fun to be around, had a great sense of humour and was kind, loving and generous. There was nothing more important to Assunta than her family and friends. She loved movies, singing, playing cards, and cooking. She was proud of her family and was never too tired to brag about them. Thank you to Dr. Masellis for the great care and friendship shown to Assunta as her physician for many years. The family thanks all the wonderful PSWs and RNs at Maple Health Centre who took such great care of Assunta with much love and compassion. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society.

Your mom/nonna was an amazing lady with grace, generosity and much love for her family and friends. I know she will be missed. I like to imagine her in heaven with the love of her life, your dad/nonno ❤️
Condolences, hugs, love and prayers from Santa, Dionisia, Paul, Taio, Alesaundra, Annarosa, Dion and Emilie🙏❤️
Dear Vicki, Teresa and family,
I had the pleasure of spending time with your mom almost every day for four months at MHC. We would sing along to her favourite tunes or just sit and talk. She would have me laughing when she “danced” to Tom Jones. She always had the best heart-warming smile when she saw me. I am heartsick, but I know she is now dancing with your dad. May the memories of this exceptional lady comfort you during this sad time. Hugs – Sandra.
Our deepest condolences to all the family. Assunta’s passing will leave a void in all who knew her. We have never known a more loving, happy, caring person. We cherished our times together in Windsor and our visits to Toronto. The Pileggi home felt like our home…..maybe because both were cared for by two beautiful women. Assunta and my mother would sit up all night talking so much so, that in the morning, neither were able to speak. They had much in common, which speaks to our deep affection for her. Assunta will always be remembered.
our deepest Condolence to the family
