elevated dLwS0 Obituary

elevated dLwS0 In loving memory of Betty Derich (née Krstić), born in Toronto on February 17, 1931, who peacefully passed away at the age of 92 on November 10, 2023, surrounded by family.

elevated dLwS0 Betty was the beloved wife of Jerry Derich and devoted mother to Marlene Prosser (Glenn), Dianne Olchowy (Marshall) and Brian Derich. Loving sister to the late Darina Malenko, aunt to Sandra Kendall and Nancy Camacho, and daughter of the late Bozidar and Katica Krstić. Within the embrace of her love, Betty adored her grandchildren Grant Prosser, Amanda Prosser, Daniel Derich and Alexandra Derich. Their laughter was the music she cherished, and their joy was the truest reflection of her nurturing spirit.

elevated dLwS0 At the tender age of 8, Betty faced an indelible loss when both her mother and father passed away, leaving a profound void in her young life. It was during her time at her last foster home that she discovered the transformative power of love and family support. Before she embraced the joys of motherhood, Betty was an outstanding bowler in the local Croatian community, showcasing a skill that consistently placed her well ahead of competitors and bringing joy and camaraderie to those privileged to share the lanes with her. She also worked as a Key Punch Operator at Drug Trading Co. before she became a mother.

elevated dLwS0 As Betty transitioned into motherhood, her love knew no bounds, creating a home filled with warmth and affection. Her adventurous spirit thrived in family travels, camping and explorations across North America. Packed in a car with her family of five with a camper in tow, she curated countless memories that forever linger.

elevated dLwS0 Despite the early challenges of losing her parents, Betty’s resilient spirit, easy-going nature and boundless positivity shaped a wonderful life surrounded by her treasured family. Family, above all else, held the utmost importance for her and there was nothing she wouldn’t do to help her children. A masterful cook and baker, Betty had the extraordinary ability to gather both immediate and extended family for celebrations that remain etched in our collective memories.

elevated dLwS0 Betty made all our lives better, leaving behind a legacy of love, selflessness and familial bonds that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew her. As we navigate the journey ahead, let Betty’s enduring love be our guiding light. Though physically absent, her spirit lives on in the laughter of family gatherings, the warmth of shared moments and the enduring love she planted in our hearts.
