Obituary
CLIVE ANTHONY NOBREGA Clive Anthony Nobrega enjoyed a life well-lived with love, companionship, professional success and laughter. Born on March 22, 1935 in Georgetown, British Guiana he passed away on January 7, 2024 in Mississauga, Ontario after a brief illness. Clive began his working career with Manufacturers Life Insurance Company in Toronto in 1953 assuming progressively more senior roles in Ottawa, Barrie and London. In 1966, he joined the federal government for the launch of the Canada Pension Plan and ended his professional career in a senior role with Canada Employment and Immigration in Ottawa. He retired in 1995 and moved to Mississauga in 2002. An avid cricket player, Clive as a teenager played for his senior club team in Georgetown (GCC), before moving to Canada in 1953. In Toronto, he continued to play with Yorkshire CC and later played for London CC. Mischievous to the end, he preferred delivering a good prank to being the recipient. With his conspirators, the objective was a good laugh without delivering too much embarrassment to his unwitting target, often one of his sons.
elevated 6qRbB Clive will be dearly missed by his wife of 64 years, Margaret; and his sons Gary (Marlene), Robert (Sandra) and Ronald (Janice). Dear Uncle Clive and Aunt Margaret have been beloved part of our lives since memory began. Wonderful visits to London, Ontario with trips to Storybook Gardens and “camping ” in the back yard. Memorable canoe trips up the Credit River and visits to Ottawa. Every special moment with Uncle Clive was marked by his deep laugh and his savvy sense of dress. We will miss Whim dearly…. he attended every celebration and wedding , near and far. We are so grateful for his presence and love in our lives. He will be greatly missed.
Dearest Aunt Marg,
We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Uncle Clive. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you, Gary, Bob, Ronald and their families. I realize that we did not regulary spend time together, but over my life time I have enjoyed every moment that I was able to spend with Clive. Trudy remembers him so fondly, and says both he and yourself always made her and our family feel so welcome. Uncle Clive was a very accomplished man, had a wonderful zest for life and a great sense of humour, but most of all he was a loving family man who will be greatly missed. Please know we love you and are thinking of you all during this sad time.
With our love and sympathy,
Frank, Trudy,
Eilea, Jessica and Erin
Uncle Clive’s and Aunt Margaret’s door was always open and welcoming; indeed a very hospitable family. Mom (Leona) spoke highly of Clive, as she did for all her brothers. As young immigrants to Canada, the Nobrega clan did exceptionally well in establishing footholds and raising wonderful and successful families. Clive’s, Doreen’s, Joanne’s and Leona’s legacies continue through their families, and what a wonderful blessing that is. I sure hope they play cricket where Clive’s spirit takes him!
We were all fortunate with the honor of having Clive in their lives, Aunt Marg, the three sons and their families and all of the extended families. He was a GREAT guy who loved life!
Betty and I will miss being there for and with you today.
