elevated RaLWm Obituary

elevated RaLWm It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy (Cissy) Chin-You, on October 21, 2024 at the age of 96.

elevated RaLWm Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Urvill, and daughter of the late Jun Wan Yap Sam and Ivy Perry.  She was a cherished sister, survived by Clive and Dorothy Ann (Annie) and predeceased by 10 other siblings. Dorothy was the dear mother of four children, Henry (Ann-Marie), the late Michael (the late Marcia), Sharon (Noel), Nicholas (Sash). She was also the beloved and proud grandmother of 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

elevated RaLWm Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Dorothy moved to Lung Boi Liang in Guangdong, China where she spent the majority of her youth. She returned to Jamaica in her early twenties, where she met and married her husband, Urvill. The two went on to start their own family, as well as two successful businesses in Mandeville. The Bank House Bakery, followed by Urvill’s Supermarket – which is still in operation today. Following the passing of Urvill in December of 2000, Dorothy spent time between Jamaica and Canada to be closer to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her two great joys in life were being surrounded by the people in Urvill’s Supermarket and spending time with her family. Dorothy took so much pride in working in the Supermarket, and was a well-respected and beloved member of the Community.  Her pride was never more evident than when she visited Urvill’s one last time in 2022, for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Supermarket being in business.  Dorothy and Urvill were also affiliated with two other businesses, Bread Master Bakery and Grand Market Supermarket.

elevated RaLWm  In her later years, Dorothy remained strong and independent, often ignoring her age entirely. She was always thinking of others, and always ensuring that they were not hungry.  She was a cherished member of this family and will be remembered for her kindness, warmth and unwavering spirit.

elevated RaLWm The family would like to express their gratitude to all the PSW’s who helped keep Dorothy strong, healthy and comfortable during the past eight years.  In particular, to Heather and Carmen of Spectrum Health Care, and also to Queenie, Maria, and Fiona for being so compassionate and caring.

elevated RaLWm Special thanks to all the Staff at Yee Hong Markham Adult Day Program for being there for Dorothy with encouragement and understanding during the past eight years.  Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed the social interaction and all the activities and exercises which contributed to keeping her mind very active and sharp.
