elevated cajnh MARTINO, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Catherine (nee TERSIGNI) Born on September 25, 1927 in Penetanguishene, ON, she passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024 in Toronto, ON. Dearly beloved wife of the late Dr. Jiacomo (Jack) James Martino, loving mother of Jo-Anne Gallagher (Jim) of Milton, Massachusetts, devoted Nana of Beth (Justin), Anthony, Jim (Mary Beth) and Nick, all of Massachusetts and proud Grand-Nana of Leo, William, Owen, John and Declan. Born to Giuseppe (Joe) and Teresa (Gina) Tersigni, she was the middle daughter of 3 girls and was always close to her sisters, the late Pauline Robillard of Penetanguishene ON, and the late Josephine Pizzagalli, of Miami, FL Although her brother-in-law Dr. R. L. Martino predeceased her, she is survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Martino, of Villanova, PA, as well as 8 nephews and many dear cousins. After growing up in Penetanguishene, and though a little reticent by nature, she nonetheless headed for Toronto to attend Nursing School at St. Michael’s Hospital from which she graduated in 1949 with her R.N. She cherished both her St. Mike’s years as well as the lifelong friendship – almost 80 years – of dear and indefatigable Noreen Searson with whom she trained. Undoubtedly, the greatest joy of her life was her family. No amount of work or sacrifice was too much for her and she would drop everything in a second to speak to someone who was having a difficult time in some way. Our family is very grateful to Mrs. Beverly LeBlanc whose professionalism and kind devotion ensured the last years would be as comfortable as possible. With God and her loved ones in Heaven now, her strong faith upon which she always depended has, no doubt, carried her Home. Her fealty and love will be forever in our hearts. The funeral will be on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home , 211 Langstaff Rd. E., Thornhill, ON. Visitation will be from 12 noon – 1:30 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:30 pm., followed by Interment and Reception back at the Funeral Home. I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Mother. She was a sweet lovely lady. My sincere sympathy to you and family
My deepest sympathy on the passing of your Mom, (Betty, my Godmother). The years we had spent together at the farm, casual dinners, caroling on Christmas Eve, Christmas & New Years celebrations, anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, & the births of our children created great memories. Your Mom was a lady who enjoyed time with her family & relatives & the simple things in life; a phone call, a game of competitive scrabble & sitting quietly doing her needlepoint projects, some of which were given to me as gifts & will always be cherished. I was always welcomed at her home whether visiting on De Vere Gardens or at Briton House; Betty was generous in all that she did. I was lucky to have her as my Godmother all these years with her support, love & trust. God has now welcomed her back home & although it is sad, Betty will always remain as a part of my life. Be strong Jo-Anne & Jim the days ahead & know that you have support from your many friends & family. Love Joanne
