elevated tXoGG Obituary
elevated tXoGG It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Francesca Caldarola in her 101st year, on February 10th, 2025. She died peacefully and at home, surrounded by her family.
elevated tXoGG Francesca was the loving wife of her dear Francesco, to whom she was married to for over 55 years, and the beloved mother of Filomena, Orazio, Graziella and Manuela. She is predeceased by her husband Francesco and daughter Filomena, her daughter-in-law Raffaella Caldarola, her sons-in-law Nicola Crocitto, Vincenzo (Vince) Spinello and Corrado (Charles) Salerno, her grandchild Giuseppe (Joey) Crocitto, and her grandchild through marriage, Luigi (Gene) Filippelli.
elevated tXoGG Along with her son and daughters, Francesca is survived by her many grandchildren and their spouses, her great-grandchildren, her sisters-in-law Maria Manicone and Domenica Caldarola, and will be remembered lovingly by her many nieces and nephews and their children, both in Canada and in Italy.
elevated tXoGG Born in 1923, Francesca was shaped by the many challenges she faced as a young bride. She was a single mother in the early years of her marriage, alone in raising her children, while her husband was away from home during the Second World War and then after, while he worked in Belgium and Argentina. She emigrated to Canada with her children in 1957 to join her husband and daughter Filomena in Toronto. Alongside her husband, she worked extremely hard with a relentless commitment to sacrifice and provide for her family and make a better life for her children.
elevated tXoGG A resourceful woman of strong character and fierce determination and independence, Francesca was the matriarch of the family. Her home was the place to gather at anytime during the year, but especially over the holidays. Her love for her family was as abundant as the countless meals she cooked, the traditional cookies, pastries and cakes she baked and the vegetables that she grew, alongside Francesco, in their gardens. She lived her life with simplicity, humour and grace, and her memory will remain in the hearts of her family, her relatives and her friends.
elevated tXoGG In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Francesca can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
