elevated rHpEL Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gino Matrundola, in Richmond Hill, at the age of 84. He was born in Cassino, Frosinone, Italy, to Domenico and Domenica Matrundola (nee Rossi). Gino married Mary (nee Sacco) 56 years ago, on May 1, 1968, in Toronto. Together they raised two children, Tel (Kelly) and Jerome (Simone). Adored grandfather to Joseph, Lauren, Chloe and Leonardo. Gino’s life was one filled with love for his family, his many friends, and for those whose lives he touched.
elevated rHpEL Gino founded a real estate brokerage in Toronto, in 1973, which remains incorporated today, 52 years later. His real estate career spanned internationally serving on the board of FIABCI (The International Real Estate Federation), in Paris, France, he also served a term as President of FIABCI Canada, a professional association that afforded Gino and Mary the opportunity to travel the world. Gino had an unbelievable energy, always ready to get-up-and-go! Gino’s passion in real estate was in land investments, driving around on Sundays with his family in the car to look at land and farms that came for sale, from the Greater Toronto Area to Niagara Falls. Until his illness in 2022, Gino and Mary continued to spend their Sundays driving looking at farms, except they switched spots, with Mary driving and Gino in the passenger seat.
elevated rHpEL Gino served a term, elected in 1987, as Member of Provincial Parliament in the Ontario constituency of Willowdale; while in government, the Premier appointed him Deputy Government Whip.
elevated rHpEL Gino’s favourite times were inviting his family to dinner when he would spend the entire day preparing what would be spectacular and delicious meals – he had a true passion for cooking, and eating as well! During his later years, he enjoyed spending winters in the sun, in Florida. He would sit on his balcony at his condo, all day under the sun, reading every newspaper he could get his hands on.
elevated rHpEL His captivating energy, larger-than-life smile, and his passion for life and traveling will forever be an inspiration for his family. He will be dearly missed.
elevated rHpEL In memory of Gino, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospital for Sick Children.
