elevated dKkuO With deep sadness, we share the passing of Giulio Boff on February 1, 2024, at the age of 90. Giulio, a beacon of warmth and kindness, was the devoted husband of Erminia for an incredible 67 years. An adoring father to Sonia (Elvis), Lidia (Joseph), and Lorenz (Megan), he held the roles of Nonno and Bisnonno to Sabrina (Alwyn), Lorenzo, Giuliana (Caleb), Carmine (Molly), Cristina (Tyler), Stefano, Zaine, Levi, and Ava.
elevated dKkuO Giulio’s nurturing and playful spirit shone through in every interaction with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and unity that will shape our family for generations to come. Giulio cherished his family above all else, finding immeasurable joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether happily tending to his garden and flowers, expressing his heart by song, playing a spirited game of cards, or enjoying the laughter of family over a biccerin di vin, Giulio was a gentle and kindhearted man who created pure, lasting memories
with those he held dear. Nonno, we will look for you in every birch and cherry tree.
elevated dKkuO Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society in Giulio’s honour would be greatly appreciated.

Nonno Giulio,
I miss you.
I’ve missed you for some time now; you became quieter as your mind stopped serving you, but no less loving. Your brain atrophied, but your heart sure didn’t. Alzheimer’s is cruel, but you stayed sweet. When our ability to dialogue was lost, I could find you with a big smile, and an “I love you”, both of which you returned every single time – no matter how challenging a day you were having, or if you remembered me.
But you did remember me. Some part of you did – maybe the atrophying part, maybe the sweet, still-beating part. And I will remember you.
I’ll remember you racing me down your driveway on a Razor scooter at 68 years old; full speed, wind catching your wavy grey hair, finding a bump in the pavement, launching into a tumble, dislocating your shoulder. You weren’t mad. At least, not at me.
I’ll remember you passing concord grapes down from your backyard vine, and cherries from your tree when I was too small to reach, or to climb up myself. Nonna told us I’d get sick from eating too many, but you kept on passing, and I kept on eating.
I’ll remember watching you work in your vegetable garden from my perch in your more kid-friendly white birch.
I’ll remember you cajoling me into accepting heaps of grated reggiano cheese on my pasta, asking, “You want to grow?”, suggesting the cheese were the catalyst to a boy’s future height and strength. You used similar tactics to coax me into drinking the quintessential ital-canadian half-wine-half-peach-Fruité children’s beverage, as well as to add more hot chili oil to my pasta. If I grew at all, I grew in fondness for your ways of being.
I didn’t inherit your wavy hair or singing voice, but I did catch a mangled shoulder in an act of daring, as well as your love of simpler joys: of being outside, human-powered locomotion, feeding your loved ones from the vegetable garden or forest floor, and long afternoons in the presence of the most loyal friends. And I hope, over time, I’ll inherit your sweetness.
I’ll see you – in every white birch and cherry tree.
I love you, Carmine
