elevated qFDKB Born on December 19th, 1925, Ien grew up in Central Java, Indonesia in a city called Salatiga. Her teenage years were filled with memories of WWII and invading Japanese military, which matured her very quickly and led her to marriage (Tjoe Ham) at the young age of 17.
elevated qFDKB She was a skilled seamstress by trade, but as a single mother at 26, she discovered she could earn a living as an entrepreneur, in the colourful markets of Jakarta.
elevated qFDKB Throughout her life, Ien taught us the true meaning of resilience. She faced life’s challenges with unwavering faith in God, never once complaining or succumbing to bitterness. She never turned down an opportunity to pray the rosary. Some of her last coherent words on the final day of her life, were the “Hail Mary”. Her quiet strength was a beacon of hope and symbol of peace for all of us, reminding us to face adversity with grace and gratitude.
elevated qFDKB From Day 1 in the hospital (Apr 29th), all the nurses fell in love with her – “Indy’s so cute, we just want to keep her”, “She never wanted to trouble anyone”, “she never complained”. Even in the face of death, she didn’t want to trouble us. She tried to look up and comfort us with the sweetest smile. That smile will be forever branded on our hearts.
elevated qFDKB The family would like to thank the palliative care team at the Greater Niagara General Hospital for their hard work to ensure Oma was comfortable over the past month, and all our friends and family for their kind words, thoughts, and prayers.
