elevated gIda2 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the Passing of our beloved “Joe ” who passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 5, 2025, with his loving wife, of 64 years, JoAnn by his side.
elevated gIda2 Joe was born on June 17, 1930, in Ottiniya Poland (now Ukraine) to Michael & Anna (Korzak) Jasinski. Joe grew up with one brother, Jan and sister Mary, both deceased. Joe’s mother passed away when he was three years old and his father later re-married Zofia Palinska, (Babka) and they had two more children together, Mario (brother) and Ann (sister). Once World War II began in Poland, Joe’s family was forced by Russian forces to leave their home in Poland on February 10, 1940, and were captured and forced to travel by train to Siberia and imprisoned in the Russian Gulags until 1942. A diplomatic amnesty was organized between Soviet and Polish governments and in 1942 thousands of Poles left the Soviet Union with the Polish Army organized by General Anders. Joe’s family was part of this regime and ended up traveling to Egypt and Iran and other middle eastern countries finally settling in Beirut, Lebanon where Joe completed his schooling and learned English where he passed his Oxford Exams in May 1949.

elevated gIda2 Joe left his family in Beirut on August 12, 1949, by ship and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia in September 1949. Since Joe was single and the Canadian government sent single men to Saskatchewan, Joe was sent to Quill Lake and lived with a German farmer, Chris Karl and his family. Joe tutored the two daughters in arithmetic, geography & spelling. Chris Karl said,” Joe you should be a teacher”, but Joe said no. Joe left Saskatchewan in 1950 and went to work in a lumber mill in Odin Lake Ontario and soon after moved to Toronto. Joe worked hard to earn money so he could apply to bring his family who were living in Manchester, England to join him in Canada. His family joined Joe in June 1951. Joe, with his father and mother, worked extremely hard for many years where they purchased several houses, the last house on Grenadier Rd. High Park Toronto.

elevated gIda2 Joe went to Radio College of Canada in 1954 where he was a night school student while working in a roofing job by day. Joe was hired by Radio Trade Supply (Warehouse) where Joe worked for 32 years. Later in 1988 he left Radio Trade and began his business where he thrived and his passion for his business career began. The passion that Joe exuded for his career, later would inspire his son to follow in his footsteps and begin his own career and love for high technology, electronics and computers. Joe worked part-time into his early 80’s. His favourite part of his job was meeting with his customers where he often had coffee with many of them on a regular basis.
elevated gIda2 In the late 1950’s Joe met his beloved wife JoAnn Skwarek and were married on October 1, 1960. Joe and JoAnn lived on the second-floor apartment on Grenadier Rd. for their first year of marriage where they welcomed their daughter Wanda in 1961 and then their son Mark, in 1962. They then moved to Scarborough (Blaisdale Rd) soon after. Joe and JoAnn bought and built their home in a new area of Toronto called North York in the spring of 1965 where they raised their family and lived into retirement until 2000.
elevated gIda2 Joe and JoAnn moved out of their home after 35 years to Markham to Swan Lake Resort, a beautiful condo until January 2023 and then moved into a retirement residence until his death.
elevated gIda2 Joe loved to tinker with electronics and often earned extra money by repairing TV’s, stereos and radios. He loved to play volleyball with his polish buddies regularly. He was an usher at St. Timothy’s church for many years. Joe loved to drive and, he loved his cars. He was very proud of all the cars he bought, especially his red Chevy Impala. Joe took his family on many road trips to Sudbury and Winnipeg in the Chevy Impala.
elevated gIda2 Joe was a family man where he worked very hard to provide for his family. He was a loyal son, brother, father and son-in-law while raising his family and was very generous with his time and money. He loved his Polish traditional family gatherings and loved food. A perfect day for Joe was to have a family dinner with all his family either barbecuing or cooking his favourite polish dishes in the kitchen, especially cabbage rolls, pierogi’s and patychky – and don’t forget a good bottle of wine!
elevated gIda2 Joe loved to vacation at Woodland beach with his family and visit JoAnn’s family in Winnipeg and Sudbury but later developed a love for sun and beaches. Joe and JoAnn traveled to many Caribbean Islands and Mexico together. A highlight trip was when Joe organized a Mexico trip to Nuevo Vallarta to bring his whole family in 1996.
elevated gIda2 Joe and JoAnn traveled to Europe to visit his nieces in France and then back to his birth home in 2002 where they met and visited his nephew, Janik, in Poland. Joe also traveled many times to Chilliwack BC to visit his daughter and grandchildren. Joe was a loving and devoted Grandpa where he spent many visits with his Chilliwack family, until his last visit in 2021. Joe & JoAnn enjoyed their regular short trips with Mark & Karen, Ryan and Sean to the Great Wolf Lodge, other resorts, lakes around Ontario and to Myrtle Beach, North Carolina.
elevated gIda2 Joe also traveled to Honolulu Hawaii with JoAnn and his daughter Wanda in 2018 and an Alaska cruise with JoAnn and Robert and Wanda in 2019.
elevated gIda2 Joe is survived by his wife JoAnn and his daughter Wanda (Robert) and his son Mark (Karen) and his seven grandchildren Ryan, Sean, Jason, Nadine, Bradley, Christine and Erin. As a legacy he had even more great grandchildren; Rebecca, Olivia, Ashlyn, Jack, Brielle, Carter, Kamryn, Kellan, Lainey, Cole, Theodore, Nora, Evgeny and Esme. Also, survived by his sister Ann Marslakek, nieces Krystyna MacDonald (Bob) & Klaudia (Erik) Menouillard, and nephew Klaudiucz Kaminiarz living in the UK, France & Poland.

My wonderful, kind, loving Uncle Joe! I would say the true legacy of a loved one is if all your memories of them are of a kind & loving person. These are my memories of my Uncle Joe. My deepest heartfelt sympathy to Auntie Joann, Mark & family and you and yours Wanda. Sending much love & warm caring hugs from your cousin in Sudbury, Ontario. 😪❤️
REST IN PEACE. YOUR FAMILY HAD THE BEST GIFT EVER HAVING YOU FOR MANY YEARS.
What an eventful life story, had no idea. It’s hard to even try to imagine what he & his family went through in their young lives. You’d never know he had hardship, he was always so cheerful. My heart breaks for Auntie JoAnn, as well as Wanda and Mark and your families. Never easy to lose a parent. May your wonderful memories help to ease your pain at this difficult time. Thinking of you all, love & hugs & prayers. We will all always remember Uncle Joe very fondly. May he Rest In Peace🙏🏻🙏🏻
What a wonderful and comprehensive obituary of a life well lived. I too have fond memories of BBQ’s in their backyard and walks in Edward’s Gardens, and Christmas dinners together when the Chilliwack family came for Christmas as little kids. Swims at Swan Lake we’re great.
My only wish is that we could have played a game of bridge with Joe and JoAnn. She ran the bridge at Swan Lake, but we never managed a game. I will remember him as a great wine maker. R.I.P. Jo
Uncle Joe , I will miss you and miss our conversations on messenger, thousand of miles away from each other. You were the last “link” to my mother. I remember the joy of meeting you for the first time in France! Rest in peace uncle Joe!
