elevated FfuC3 Obituary
elevated FfuC3 The family announces with sorrow the passing of Josephine Mary Sponagle on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Hawthorn Woods Care Community at the age of 92. She was the beloved wife of the John George Sponagle (1998) and beloved daughter of Angelo and Janie Aquilina (predeceased). Loving sister of Victor Vincent (2022) and sister-in-law of Eileen Caroline (2017) Aquilina. Fondly remembered by her only niece, Carolyn and her husband, John. Josephine was the cherished great aunt of Austin and Ace.
elevated FfuC3 Josephine was born in Floriana, Malta in 1932. She immigrated to Canada with her brother, Victor, in 1965. Josephine was a dedicated employee of Loblaws for over 40 years. She was generous, fun-loving, hard-working and kind. She loved being hospitable to others and over the years she was famous for organizing large family gatherings around Christmas time. At Chartwell Retirement Home and at Hawthorn Care Community, Josephine was on the welcoming committee and she always made new residents feel right at home. She had a big heart for a petite lady and she always gave generously to others. Josephine loved camping, gardening, and the great outdoor outdoors, especially Halliburton Conservation. She loved singing, and she always had joy in her heart. Josephine was beautiful inside and out, and she was known for all of her keen sense of fashion. Josephine made everyone feel cherished and she had a term of endearment for everyone. With a cup of tea in a fine bone china cup, she could chat for hours and listen with an open heart.
elevated FfuC3 Josephine had a wonderful sense of humor, and she had a unique ability to bring cheer to those around her. Her laughter was like music to those around her. Josephine loved to travel and she had a courageous sense of adventure and she traveled on her own to many warm countries in her golden years. On October 11th, as Josephine made her heavenly journey, her final gift to all of us was the imprint of love she left on our hearts and the beautiful memories she made of family gatherings, cherished moments, and loving kindness. Eternal rest grant onto Josephine, O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon her, and may she rest in peace. Amen.

Dearest Auntie Jo, my Godmother and the sweetest & most generous lady, Everything we learned about being tenderhearted we learned from you. You were the Great Auntie to Austin & Ace not only because you spread living kindness for 92 years but because you were truly the epitome of greatness! For years you demonstrated hospitality by opening your doors to the family at Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving. As this is the start this Thanksgiving weekend, we want to thank you for teaching us the value of a hard work ethic, for showing us the importance of having sense of humour, for singing in the face of adversity and for being a role model of faith, hope love and charity. You were a true fashionista, you always offered others a crème de menthe and you always expressed cheerfulness. We will love you always and forever. We will forever be your Funny Bunnies

Josephine was truly a gem, and we had some great times together, from our date with Shakespeare in Stratford, to our shopping at Vivian’s boutique and teatime at the tea house in Chinquacousy Park. She always brought so much joy. I will never forget her and will remember her with great affection and a smile.
