elevated NyKku Obituary
Kenneth Lorne MacKinnon passed away peacefully at home with family at his side after a brave struggle with ALS. Beloved husband of Anne for 55 years. Loving father of Kenneth (James), Andrew (Jenn), Malcolm (Kristine). Predeceased by Malcolm in 2019. Adored Grampie of Calum (Victoria), Maeve, Bronwyn, Kern, and Hazel. Beloved brother of Joan (Norman), Ron (Nancy), Charlene (Charles). Beloved uncle to Laura, Carolyn, Trevor, and Paul. Ken loved sitting in a small boat on a large still lake with a fishing line in the water. He loved the sound of the wind in the sails when crewing for his good friend Richard in Richard’s sailboat. He loved sitting in a quiet spot on the deck of a cruise ship and watching the ocean. We crossed the Atlantic Ocean on ships seven times. Ken also loved Scottish Country Dancing: the camaraderie, the music, and the intricate patterns that make up the dances. His memory for the many dances was remarkable. The family is very grateful for the kindness and care that Ken received at Sunnybrook ALS/Neuromuscular Clinic. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the ALS Society of Canada https://als.ca/ or the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Michael’s Cathedral https://ssvp.ca/donate/

My thoughts are with all of you during this difficult time. Sending love, strength and prayers as you navigate next steps.
Dear Anne,
We are so very saddened to hear of Ken’s passing. Despite his difficult illness and suffering, he must have felt truly blessed to be comforted by your love, care and support, and nurtured by the love of his children and grandchildren. His charming smile is unforgettable. Free now from earthly distress, may angels guide him into the waiting embrace of our Blessed Lord and into a place of eternal rest and peace.
Please accept our sincere and heartfelt condolences in this time of sorrow,
Bonnie and Al
I first knew Ken when we were both employed at Howarth & Smith, Typographers. We both went through printing courses in high school—separate schools.
Through thick and thin we both survived the changes in the typesetting world.
After retirement I asked Ken if he would like to add sailing on “Skookumchuk” to his leisure activities. He said he would give it a try. The try lasted ten years until ALS overtook him. We raced on Lake Ontario in no wind, light wind and strong winds. Even some storm winds.
At a Robbie Burns Night at the boat club, Ken dressed in his formal Scottish attire and wowed the members.
He was a great friend. My wife Carol and I extend our sincere condolences to Anne and the MacKinnon clan.
Dear Ken,
On behalf of the UPEI Faculty of Education, we send our most sincere condolences to you and your family at this very sad time.
Life is indeed precious. Please take care.
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. May your happy memories give you peace and comfort during this challenging time.
Dear Anne, Kenneth, and Andrew, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences, thoughts, and prayers to you all. Ken was a truly wonderful man who filled our family’s life with countless happy moments and laughter and a lifelong friendship. He will now be reunited with Dad and Uncle Alex in heaven, where the bagpipes will play in celebration of his dancing spirit. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Lots of Love, May, Catherine, and Anne Margaret Taylor…xo
My sincere condolences to the family and friends. I first met Ken at Howarth & Smith in 1968. I was registered in his place when he became a journeyman. He was always kind and willing to help me advance with my typesetting skills in the early days. Over the years we kept in touch. May he rest in peace. 🥰🥰🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Dear Ken,
May God bless you and your family with comfort, hope, and strength, knowing that your father is resting in eternal peace and love!
