It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Amelia (“Dolly”) Dias on April 11th, 2025, in Mississauga, Ontario, after a battle with ill health. Beloved wife of Edgar Dias and mother of two wonderful daughters, Cherylnne (Scott) and Gaynor, Dolly provided loving guidance and good counsel to her family and to her grandchildren—Ryan, Dylan, and Jared. She was the eldest child of Rozendo and Dora De Mello (née Nazareth), both deceased, and a loving sister to Allen (Lavinia), Brenda (George), and Cedric.
Dolly met and married the love of her life and best friend, Edgar, in 1970 in Nairobi, Kenya. Together they raised their family while living in three different countries—Kenya, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Dolly and Edgar celebrated 54 years of marriage together.
Dolly had a great zest for life with a keen intelligence and a wonderful sense of humour. She lived large, laughed frequently, and will always be remembered for her beautiful smile. Her loving nature drew people to her, especially her cousins, nephews, and nieces. She effortlessly kept in touch with her family and friends across the globe. Keeping her ‘House of Nazareth’ family close and united was an important part of Dolly’s purpose in life. So, too, was the loving relationship that Dolly built with Edgar’s family, particularly with his brother Mervyn and his sisters, Erna (deceased) and Marlene, as well as their children.
Our Dolly was a woman of great faith with a steadfast devotion to the Daily Mass and the Divine Mercy. Her passion for faith ensures us that she is at eternal rest with the Lord and enjoying Heaven with her dearly departed family and friends.
Godspeed, dearest Dolly—until we meet again.

Dear Dolly, I remember you so well, my dear friend.
I first knew you as the hard-working and SO helpful secretary at the Unitarian Congregation of South Peel
(now the Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga) and also at your other workplace near the intersection of Bloor Street and Fieldgate Drive in Mississauga. There we often talked about learning English and the struggles of those learning Canadian English from me, also an African-Canadian like yourself. Thank you Dolly, for being so supportive and kind.
Dear Edgar, Cherrie and Gaynor, Bill, Stefanos and I send our condolences. I have fond memories of Dolly and her deep warmth. She will be missed. Please know that we are thinking of you across the oceans. Lots of love, Kristen, Bill and Stefanos
