elevated 077nf Maria Burchert
elevated 077nf November 24, 1929 – February 14, 2021
elevated 077nf Maria came to Canada from Germany in 1953 to be married and start a new life. Maria and her husband, Erwin, moved from Toronto to Scarborough where they raised a family of 4 children. Next to family, St. Rose of Lima parish and St. Patrick’s were the focus of Maria’s life. She volunteered wherever there was a need and sang in the St. Rose of Lima choir for decades.
elevated 077nf In her 66 years of marriage, Maria was deeply devoted to her growing family, her friends and especially her faith. In her retirement she spent time running the tea room at Bendale Acres Long Term Care home and helping the elderly in any way she could. Above all, she was available for any of her children or grandchildren, day or night.
elevated 077nf Maria was a wonderful, generous, caring, and hard-working woman with a deep faith and loving heart. Her grandchildren credit their Oma’s great example as the reason they all love and care for each other so deeply.
elevated 077nf Erwin passed away in September 2019 and Maria moved to Presentation Manor in January 2020 where she was well cared for. Maria will be greatly missed by all as will her cooking and baking.
elevated 077nf She passed away surrounded by her loving children Ralph (Diane), Gerhard (Becky), Irene (Walt), and Janet. She is a very special Oma to Julia (Jason), Cameron (Katie), Katie (Scott), Paul, Siobhan, Chris (Danielle), Michael, Andrew, Collette, Jennifer (Jordan) and Christopher. Her legacy continues with great grandchildren Annie, Finn, Isla, Emma, Ben and one on the way. She is also the treasured aunt to a host of nieces and nephews.
elevated 077nf In lieu of flowers and in light of the Lenten season, donations to the Good Shepherd Ministries, would be appreciated by the family.
elevated 077nf Due to the COVID restrictions, all Funeral Services will be held privately. Family and friends are invited to view the Funeral Mass on Saturday February 20, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. Please clink the link below to view:

So sorry Diane and Ralph. Wish we could be with you during this difficult time.
Our condolences to the entire Burchert family. Tante Ria will always be remembered in our hearts as a wonderful, caring and kind person. I speak for my parents Uncle Willi and Tante Marlies when I tell you how much she meant to us. Our love to all of you
Janet,
I am sorry for you and your families loss. A huge loss. She will live on in all of you!
Tante Ria, I’m so glad I saw her once again a few weeks ago. Now the last of this generation of Schormanns has passed.
The picture shows, what a friendly and beautiful woman she was.
She continues to live in her 4 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nobody never goes completely. I am with you in your grief.
Barbara
Tante Ria was my Godmother and I have so many wonderful memories especially from childhood through my teens. She was always loving and caring and I will miss her.
From our whole family to yours, we send you our most heartfelt deepest condolences. We are thinking of you, and we send all of our love.
To the extended Burchert Family……
Please accept my sincere condolences in this time of sorrow brought upon you by the passing of your dear Mom and Oma.
Although I only came to know Ria at the time when the “Harfentöne” gathered to sing for Erwin at the home he was cared for.
However – I remember fondly the brief conversation I enjoyed with her at her house on the occasion of her 90th Birthday when several members of the choir resounded their “Happy Birthday” to her. It was then, when she left no word unspoken to make sure that I have a beer. There are many stories I have been told about the dedication she put forward to do the utmost for – not only Erwin’s – but also her beloved “Harfentöne”.
May she now rest peacefully united with Erwin and may God give your entire Family Strength in this time of loss!
Wilmar Wolf,
“Harfentöne” VP

With gratitude and blessing for me to spend time with Maria at Presentation Manor when she moved to the 2nd Floor. She will be deeply missed . Sincere condolences to the family and loved ones from Legion of Mary St Rose of Lima Parish , Imelda Uy and family .
