elevated 4Rk1d Passed away peacefully on September 9, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre at the age of 89. Mariana was born to Antonio and Guilhermina in Terceira Azores (Portugal). She married a fellow Azorean, her beloved husband Firmino Martins Correia, who preceded her in death in 1981.
elevated 4Rk1d Mariana was the loving mother of 6 children – 3 daughters and 3 sons: Freddy (Max), Mina (Adelino), David (Raquel), Luis (Mela), Odilia (Jared), and the late Maria-Alice who passed away in infancy. Cherished grandmother of Ryan, Kevin (Shereen), David (Alison), Jennifer, Andrew, Marlene, Sonia (Sharif), Jeffrey, Hayden and great-grandmother of Alex, Ayrton, and Emerson. She is also survived by her 4 sisters, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
elevated 4Rk1d Her large family kept her busy for many years. She was an accomplished cook, baker and seamstress. She often boasted that her specialty dishes could not be replicated by anyone else – Massa Sovada was baked often for the whole family! Only the best ingredients would go into her baking and cooking.
elevated 4Rk1d As a seamstress she kept all her children clothed in the latest fashion when they were young, and she continued to sew for her daughters and her grandchildren. She loved her crafts – most memorably making blankets (patchwork, crochet, knit) and wonderfully warm yet hazardous pantufas made out of yarn. Each child and grandchild has had something homemade by her – edible or crafty.
elevated 4Rk1d She will be missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family as your expression of sympathy. Her funeral service will be held September 11, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. which will be accessible via live stream.
