elevated kce9O Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene Gloria Sorrenti (née Dolenko), surrounded by her family, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto on Sunday November 26th, 2023.

elevated kce9O She is survived by her loving husband Adam, their children Derek (Tonya Luby) and Andrea (Stephen Kuchma), and beloved grandchildren Chase, Alexa, Hunter, Mia and Autumn. She is also survived by her sister Beatrice Babino (Nestor) and brother Allan Dolenko (Marilyn), sister-in-law Antoinette (Ida) Sorrenti, and numerous nieces and nephews.

elevated kce9O Marlene was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 6, 1947, the youngest of the six children of John Dolenko and Anna Trach. She was predeceased by her first son, Eric, brother Kenneth Dolenko, and sisters Phyllis Evason (Waldo), and Bernice Smith (John).

elevated kce9O After graduating from St. John’s High School in Winnipeg in 1964, she moved to Montreal in 1967. She met Adam there in 1968. They were married in Winnipeg on June 7, 1969.  Following their marriage, Marlene and Adam lived briefly in both Montreal and Bermuda before moving permanently to Toronto in 1972.

elevated kce9O Marlene was primarily a stay-at-home mom until her children were school aged. She then began careers as a real estate broker and appraiser. She also took up golf, as she explained, so she could spend more time with Adam. As it turned out, she loved her golf and was an active member within the Bayview Golf and Country Club community for many years.

elevated kce9O Before becoming a full-time Nana, Marlene was fortunate to travel together with Adam to (almost) all corners of the globe, where together they experienced many cultures, lifestyles and cuisines.

elevated kce9O Following the birth of her grandchildren, Nana became a superb caregiver, family chauffer and loving and enthusiastic supporter of their sporting, musical and performing endeavours.

elevated kce9O Marlene will be fondly remembered as an exceptional chef whose specialty holiday dishes will be cherished and unsuccessfully imitated by her family for generations; and as an avid gardener, whose backyard was kept to an impeccable standard of perfection.

elevated kce9O During her life Marlene forged countless friendships and particularly enjoyed her time spent with friends and family in Juno Beach, Florida, her second home and favourite winter getaway. It was her “Heaven on Earth” – a place she could enjoy and share, not only with Adam but with her children and grandchildren.

elevated kce9O Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff in the Cardiac Care Unit at St. Michael’s Hospital for their professionalism, dedication and compassion through her final journey.

elevated kce9O A private interment ceremony for immediate family shall follow at a later date.

elevated kce9O In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
