elevated xcCHx EGLI, MARY ELIZABETH (nee KOWAL) Mary Elizabeth Egli (nee Kowal) beloved and devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her 94th year, July 25, 2023, in Markham, Ontario. Mary was born in Ukraine October 1, 1929, and sailed to Canada at the age of 6 with her Mother (Doris) speaking very little English. Doris and Mary settled in Geraldton with her father (Harris) and brother (Peter) and eventually moved to Toronto with her family. Mary was proud to become a Canadian citizen in 1954. Mary was the matriarch of our family. She had a commanding presence every time she walked into any room. Mary was very devoted to her faith, she was smart, thoughtful, caring, kind, curious, hardworking, and so much fun to be around. She was game to try almost anything if you asked which included her first water tube ride around Mary Lake in her seventies, zip lining on a cruise in her 80’s and enthusiastically agreeing to dress up and participate in many themed golf guest days at York Downs. Mary was famous for her love of playing games, entertaining, being a great cook, plus numerous deliveries of cookies, muffins and soups. Mary was such a special human being, and we are all that much better for having had her touch each of our lives. Mary is survived by her beloved brother Peter (Helen), children Jo-Ann (John), Marilyn (Blair), Barbara (Dan), her grandchildren Ryan (Erin), Michael (Andrea), Keith (Jessica), Matthew (Alicia) and great-grandchildren (Clark and Cady). Mary was predeceased by her loving, “courageous” husband Harvey and Lindsay, her beautiful and cherished granddaughter. As we bid farewell to Mary, our Mom, let us all remember how she touched each of our lives, her devotion and unwavering love for her family and a life well lived. We will miss her dearly but so glad she is resting peacefully with Lindsay and our Dad. Thank you to the amazing staff at Markham Stouffville Hospital including all the doctors and nurses who cared for Mary so gently during her final journey. We also would like to thank all the caring staff at Amica Swan Lake with special mention to Dr. Weissberger, her nurses, and all the wonderful RCP’s. Those that wish to make a donation in Mary’s name, please direct them to either the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Canada-Ukraine Foundation. Mary will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony.
