Mary Elizabeth Guest, a beloved mother, Amma, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2024, in Ottawa, Ontario, at the age of 60. Born on April 21, 1964, Mary lived a life filled with love, dedication, and a deep appreciation for her family and the natural world.
elevated Vo915 Mary was the cherished daughter of Gerald and Marilyn Guest, and grew up in a loving home with her three siblings, Gregory, Susan (Craig), and Paul. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Education and pursued a fulfilling career as an inspirational teacher, touching the lives of countless students with her wisdom, kindness, and enthusiasm for learning.
elevated Vo915 Mary was the loving mother to Iain (Courtney) and Marilyn (John Patrick), whom she adored and nurtured with all her heart. She was also a devoted Amma to her grandchildren, Owen and Indy, who brought immense joy and pride to her life. Mary shared a wonderful partnership with Peter MacLeod, who stood by her side with unwavering support and love, and is now reunited with her husband, Kevin Hill (1996).
elevated Vo915 Mary had a passion for reading, hiking, and traveling, and was an avid naturalist. She could often be found spending her free time exploring the great outdoors, Elvis the dog at her side. Her deep connection with nature was evident in everything she did, from her teaching to her hobbies. Her warm smile, gentle spirit, and generous heart touched the lives of everyone she met, leaving a lasting impact on all who met her.
elevated Vo915 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Neuroendocrine Tumour Society or the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation in Mary’s honour.
elevated Vo915 Mary Elizabeth Guest leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and inspiration. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten.

Dear Peter, Marilyn and Ian. We are so saddened to hear about Mary’s passing. She was a wonderful woman who we all admired for her extreme kindness..and gentle, upbeat personality. She was a joy to be around! So glad I got to see her last September at her lovely home that she enjoyed so much. We know she loved you all so very much and that blessing and your memories of wonderful times spent together will forever be in your hearts. Sending condolences with love to you all.

Dear Extended Guest family and Mary’s special family,
As a longtime friend of Marilyn and Gerald and Godmother to Mary I am so very saddened by Mary’s death. It has come as most unexpected and I am feeling the loss personally. I had always hoped Mary and I would meet here in Kingston, but it didn’t happen.
May Marilyn and Iain follow their mother’s life in all that she stood for.

Dear Marilyn, John Patrick, Owen, Indy and family,
Every time we met your mom she was always in good spirits – so positive and full of life. It’s difficult to comprehend, in our hearts, that she is gone. We know she will be sadly missed. Just recognize, Marilyn, that in you she lies – you are very similar and have embraced all of her good qualities that you can pass on to your Owen and Indy.

I recall so clearly the time in Mary’s life when Kevin died. Seeing those photos yesterday brought powerfully into focus that our life is meant for Love and to love.

I am saddened to hear about your Mom. My heart aches for you because I know how much you’ve lost.
Your Mom was an incredible woman, who taught me so much in the short time we worked together… oh how we will miss our dear Mary. Your Mom took her Park Naturalist role to new heights and brought attention to detail in everything she did. She was a wealth of information and I loved hearing and learning of her life experiences and adventures. Because she had many! Every year I’d learn something new about her.
Your Mom will be sadly and deeply missed.

I only knew Mary for a few years..How lucky I am to meet a gentle fun loving soul., she was delightful.
At the Goldstream nature house things could become hectic during the salmon season. Regardless how busy and sometimes chaotic there was calm presence…Mary!
It was truly and a joy so spend time with her.
There was a morning when I arrived parked my car. Mary was with a class of little ones…everyone was waving, I thought..How sweet…Mary was trying to warn me to stay in the car…Instead I hopped out and waved back…then turned around to see 2 young bears playing in a tree behind me…as you can imagine it caused great amusement!..Happy memories of a very special human being, who won’t be forgotten.
Just reading this months later. My goodness, worked with Mary at the wool shop in Carleton place, Ontario. She was always smiling to you and just sweet and so genuinely friendly.
