elevated uZ8us It is with broken hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Mladen Romic, on May 12, 2020.
Mladen was a dedicated family man; an incredible husband to Edita for 41 years, a beloved father to Zeljko (Bonnie) and Kristina (Shahab), and a superhero to his 4 grandchildren – Marko, Gabriela, Juliana and Mateo. He is survived by his Mother (Ankica Romic), and sisters (Vesna and Marta), whom he planned to visit this summer in their native Croatia.
elevated uZ8us Mladen’s circle of friends and family was vast, and he genuinely appreciated each of those bonds. He will be remembered for his gentle personality, exceptional patience, contagious giggle, his commitment to family, and a passion for fixing anything he could get his hands on. It is not surprising that his last days were spent preparing for his beloved wife’s birthday, while painting and refining a sandbox and picnic table he built for his grandchildren in the backyard. There was nothing he would not do for Edita, his children and his grandkids. Mladen’s commitment to family was second to none, and that is the legacy he leaves behind.
elevated uZ8us Though he was taken too soon, we can smile knowing that he had the opportunity to see many of his hopes and dreams come to life. After immigrating to Canada with his family in 1989, Mladen lived an active and fulfilling life, worked hard, and watched his children grow to be successful adults. He had the opportunity, although cut too short, to bond, to play, and to care for his 4 grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored. He spent vacations, birthdays, weddings, weekends, and so many other occasions, surrounded by love and kindness, in a family that is as tight knit as it can get. As an avid sports fan, he even got the opportunity to watch his Croatian soccer team make the finals of the World Cup in 2018, and saw his Toronto Raptors lift the championship trophy a year later.
elevated uZ8us We must thank the extraordinary Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics and Staff, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, who worked diligently and selflessly to provide world-class care in treating Mladen after his tragic fall.
elevated uZ8us Mladen will be missed by the many friends and loved ones whose lives he touched; friends and family who span generations and continents.

Dear Mladen, You will be missed greatly by your family, your friends will miss you too. As was mention in obituary you genuinely appreciated each of those bonds. Even though our lives were too busy at the certain times, you always found time to call and keep that bond alive. That is another legacy you leaving behind.

We are heartbroken over the loss of our beloved Mr. Romic. We have so many great memories with him. He always had the same peaceful and genuine smile and kindness towards all of us. Our kids also always loved and enjoyed being around him. His patience and kindness with adults and kids alike was remarkable. We will miss him very much.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. Mr. Romic was a great man. He was full of joy, always smiling, and unconditionally loved his family. I enjoyed talking with him about soccer – especially around the time of European championships and the World Cup. He will be dearly missed. My prayers and condolences are with you all during this very difficult time. May he find peace and comfort in the bosom of our Heavenly Father in heaven and until we meet again.

I have numerous fine memories with Mladen. As most of you know, he was an excellent Chess player. In many family occasions, while the kids were playing, Mladen and I, used to play chess with each other and sometimes as a tournament with others.
> He was a master player in chess game, while I was trying to challenge him. Even though he was the winner in majority of cases, in odd occasions and with the help of my luck, I won him only a few times. In all cases, no matter , if he was a winner or a loser, he kept his calm, gentle & kind manner, and used to pat my back, shake my hand with warm smile and encouraging words which was driven from his warm heart, generosity and sportsmanship. I miss him dearly.

We are deeply saddened over the tragic loss of your beloved husband and father who was so genuinely calm, kind and thoughtful. He was a true gentleman with a heart of gold.
> Since we become a family member of each other in 2008, We shared many life-long memories on different family gatherings. My favourite one is , when Mladen and I , celebrated our joint Birthdays by standing shoulder to shoulder , while our family were singing Happy Birthday for both of us, in English, in Croatian and in Persian. For sure, it will not be easy to have any future Birthdays without him. He will be remembered always, for all of his superb qualities. Love you forever.
Thank you Mommy Joon. Indeed, we will miss him dearly, especially around the October birthdays (yours, Amou’s and Dad’s). But, he will forever be with us in spirit and in our hearts.

All that comes to mind is Mr. Romic wonderful smile and big hugs we received whenever we ran into each other. He was truly a warm wonderful person and was taken too soon.

Since Dear Kristina became a lovely family Member, I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Romic in family gatherings.
We shared same birthday with thanksgiving celebration , so celebrating without him it won’t be easy any more.
He was humble, respectable and genuine person.
Being around him always was enjoyable.
He left family and friends very soon, will be missed for ever.

Kristina, Shahab, Gabi, Jules and family – My deepest condolences to you all. I had only met Mr. Romic once, but from that first impression I could tell that he was a sweet, gentle man. He had kind eyes and a warm smile, and it lit up when he saw his daughter. Thinking of you all during this time and sending you so much love.
