I am so sad to hear of Rick’s untimely passing and of your terrible loss. He was such an example of someone who could truly enjoy life and to also laugh wholeheartedly at its everyday absurdities. He was missed badly when he retired from the Board, although I know that his influence lived on and that he touched many, many lives over his years of dedicated service. I just had a chance to look through some of the pictures from his retirement party and the many people who came to wish him well. He was such an original: so much joy, so much Elvis! My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
My condolences Miraglia Family.
The few time I seen Rick, he checked to see how everything was going…and always had a smile to share with myself and my students. I am glad to have known you…someone whom gave so much to students/families who needed your help. God Bless You!
Miraglia family…I pray your family stays strong in this difficult time.
God Bless
Our dear Alana and family
There are no appropriate words at this time.
Your dad leaves behind a beautiful legacy.
He worked hard on projects to make the community a better place. He enjoyed life to the fullest. May his name be a blessing.
Anyone whose life was blessed to have enjoyed the pleasure of your company or to have had the privilege to count you as a friend, is now sitting in the shade because of the many trees you planted for them some time ago. Cheers to a great man, a mentor and an incredible person.
My very deepest condolences to Ricks wife, Alana and the rest of your family and Friends. Rick was one of the strongest advocates for students as well as us as his staff team. I am very blessed to have known Rick. He will never be forgotten. God Bless.
Rick always reminded everyone to “show the love”. It was that love, care and empathy that touched the lives of so many students and all of those around him. Rick was a Rockstar who was as real as it gets! His philosophy to “pay it forward” defined his care for others and how he lived his life. Rick touched everyone he met. We are so thankful we had the opportunity to know him. His legacy of putting others first lives on through his family. May God rest his soul.
Sending deepest condolences on the loss of your dear Rick. I worked many years at the board with him and shared many laughs and also hard work on challenging cases. Rick always listened carefully and brought his talents to the table. Pink Cadillac played at our wedding anniversary 15 years ago at the curling club. I will forever have great memories. Sincere condolences on your loss. May your own sweet memories bring comfort.
I’m still in shock as I sit here and reflect on the amazing memories we shared from the TD Centre to playing hockey together! You were a true friend and colleague who made everyone that you touched a better person. Rick’s legacy will never be forgotten as he genuinely cared for everyone he came into contact with, including the countless diverse students throughout his distinguished career at York Catholic. I will miss our chats about our favourite team…the Buds!
My sincere condolences to Rick’s family and friends during this incredibly sad time. God Bless you Rick.
I have 20 years of memories that include lots of laughs, music and friendship. I am blessed to have known Rick and to have had him in my life. He was gentle, kind-hearted, generous, open-minded and respectful. He was one of the hardest working people I know but also the life of any party he attended. He will always be remembered for his positive vibe and his easy manner. He was confident yet self-deprecating; larger than life yet humble.
Marina and I extend our sympathies to Rick’s family and to those who had the pleasure to know him. We miss him already…
Sincere condolences to Maria, Alana and to Rick’s entire family. As you already know, that guy was much more than just another guitar playing student services treasure.
Our 30 year careers at the board pretty much overlapped and so he is often present when I think back. Thankfully that won’t change.
I will continue to easily recall the reassurance I derived from our professional discussions as well as the good humour, good music, and good natured personal conversation he provided on so many other occasions.
Godspeed my friend and thanks sincerely.
My deepest condolences to the Miraglia family. Rick will be missed in so many ways.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rick. I worked closely with Rick for a number of years and I highly respected him. Rick worked with the most vulnerable children in our system, and assisted them and their families throughout their challenges. He definitely touched many lives, he had a wonderful gift. I personally feel privileged to have known him, he brought a lot of joy with his presence. I will cherish the memories I have of our times together at YCDSB.
To his family that he fondly loved and talked about all the time, I send my sincere and heartfelt condolences. Rest In Peace Rick.
I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear colleague and friend. I first met Rick when we were waiting to be interviewed for a BRS position. He was friendly and funny, immediately putting me at ease and then wished me good luck as I went in for my interview. My good luck was that I experienced many more years of Rick’s compassion, good humour and the positivity he shared with me that day. He leaves behind so many wonderful memories!
My sincerest condolences to you, his loving family. He loved you so much.
Love,
Dar

My sincere condolences go out to Rick’s family. I was saddened to hear of his sudden passing. I first met Rick more than 10 years ago as a parent of a child with exceptionalities who needed the support of behavioural services at school. Rick and I have had many conversations since that time and he was always been so positive and supportive of our family’s needs which extended beyond the educational setting. I will always remember his calm manner, soft spoken voice, and hearty laugh. He said that he would always take care of my son, and he did. I will always be grateful for Rick’s kind words. He was able to make an anxious parent feel that everything was going to be okay. I know that he helped many children and families over the years. I am sure that he made them all feel special. Rick, thank you so much for everything that you did for my son. Your hard work will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.

I was so very sad and shocked to learn of Rick’s passing.
I had the privilege of working with him throughout my years as principal. Very early on, whenever we would speak on the phone or meet at the Board office, he would always begin the conversation with a smile on his face and a “Hey, Buddy!” It quickly became a joke between us as it was never known whether the “Hey, Buddy” was a harbinger of good or bad news – in terms of support services being offered or decreased. Even when it was the latter, Rick always had a way of making me feel that I was heard in my request and would always do his best to look for the possibilities in every situation. That was always greatly appreciated.
You will be missed by many of us. “Hey Buddy,” may you rest in peace.
I am truly saddened by Rick’s untimely death. To his family, I offer my condolences and my prayers that God will give you strength and comfort at this very difficult time. It was self-evident that Rick loved and was proud of all of you, so I hope that you will be comforted by the knowledge that you were pivotal to his quality of life.
I will remember Rick most fondly for his fun-loving nature, his warmth during our conversations (serious and otherwise), and his many efforts to be supportive to challenging students and their families. May he rest in peace.
Re: our first posting

A very special colleague and friend who contributed so much to so many has passed into the Great Beyond. How like Rick to make this most important step of his life privately, peacefully, without burdening those he loved. And what a treasure of memories and admiration he leaves with each of us who knew him. I remember well the day he came for his interview as an experienced and highly recommended candidate as a consultant for students with social adjustment needs. And how admirably he carried out this supportive role to students and teachers, enabling the development of self-confidence and skills in each and every one. He made difficult, challenging changes become desirable and possible. And he made each one feel they were special in a whole new and different way with his gifts of total acceptance, his outstanding professional skills, and his contagious humour.
Rick will be much missed by each and every one of us.
To his much-loved family he leaves the profound awareness of his caring, devoted manner, and a deep sense of pride in the husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and family member with whom they have been so richly blessed. He will continue to care for them from the Shalom of God.

Sal and I want to extend our deepest condolences and love to the entire Miraglia family. I will choose to remember Rickie when I first met him at 16. My best friend Mary invited me to an Eagles concert with her brother and sisters. We were so far from the stage so Rickie became the entertainer. We laughed so hard he was so funny. He will be so missed ,he was taken way too soon. Rest in Peace dear Rickie and make them laugh!
We are so deeply saddened to hear of Rick’s sudden passing. To Maria, Alana and all the family, please accept our heartfelt condolences.
Rick was an incredible advocate for children, youth and families. He would always do what was best for the child with being creative in a solution and not allowing some of the typical procedures to be limiting in an outcome. Rick was never afraid to push the boundaries if it would help the child be more successful.
Family was so important to Rick and he was so proud to share with others about various happenings .
Music was such a big part of who Rick was and sharing his gift , whether it be in classrooms, school board gatherings or various people’s retirements. Everyone looked forward to sitting back or even dancing to the great tunes.
Lots of memories of laughter with Rick and being able to joke , getting us through some difficult situations.
We will continue to keep you all in our thoughts as you go forward dealing with the loss of Rick

Maria, Alana and Jason: I am so very sorry for your loss; for our loss. I am sure that so many people are telling you what a wonderful person Rick was and such a bright light in so many lives. I had the privilege of working with him for 30 years at YCDSB and his calm, thoughtful, caring approach with students, families and staff got us through many challenging cases. His professional skills were stellar and, perhaps, only outdone by his enthusiasm in shoring staff morale. His costumes and guitar, and his ability to break into song also got us through some challenging times. Alana and Jason, please know that Rick proudly spoke of you to his colleagues and that may only have been outdone by the loving way in which he spoke of you, Maria. He was a delight to work with and I will miss him. Please know you are all in my heart, thoughts and prayers.
Dear Mary, Alana and family,
I was so sorry to hear of Rick’s passing. Over the years of meetings about my students he was always caring and an advocate for them. His warmth and good advice was always welcome. May your good memories of him give you strength in the days ahead.

Our deepest condolences to the Miraglia family
I was so sad to hear of Rick’s passing. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
Rick brought such wonderful enthusiasm and energy to the Catholic Education Centre everyday. We never passed in the halls or on the stairs without a friendly and uplifting conversation.
Rick took great interest in our YCDSB environmental presentation system called “RocktheBike” which powered musical instruments and other equipment exclusively through student pedal power. Rick, being a musician himself, wanted to try out the system and one day after several discussions between us in September of 2015, we were able to make it happen at the Education Centre. Rick and a small group of YCDSB musicians performed several songs in the lobby entertaining staff, students and members of the public . The building filled with wonderful music all using electricity from environmentally friendly pedal power. I’m so glad we had that day back in 2015. Rest in peace my friend.
Our condolences to the family, thoughts and prayers are with you all. Will always remember Ricky’s big smile and playful spirit. God Bless.

‘Hey Buddy’ – Rick, I will always cherish the many laughs we had together working in the TD centres. Among the best memories were when the kids at St. Matthew thought we were a father/son team and putting on the Christmas skits for the Student Services team. You were a joy to be around and respected by so many for your great work. It was always fun to call you ‘dad’. The news of your passing floored me. We have lost a bright light. May your beautiful memory comfort your family and all who loved you. Rest easy in the arms of the Saviour, Rick.
Maria, Alana and Jason

He was extremely considerate and truly cared for the special children that he worked with. He will be missed and you are in my thoughts and prayers!
Rick was a great man, he was missed after he retired and will be missed even more now that he’s left these earthly coils. A huge part of his legacy rests in the thousands of young lives, families and colleagues that he impacted, myself included. He was a man of integrity and principle, but always gracious and magnanimous.
My condolences to his family and closest friends. Rick is gone but not forgotten.
Rest in peace, buddy.
Remember when Ricky took us to see Ronnie Hawkins on one of our trips to Toronto. My condolences to the family.

He touched so many staff and students with his tireless dedication to the students who needed it most.
He made many a long meeting enjoyable with his great sense of humour and fun loving spirit. I was blessed to have the opportunity to work closely with him.
I will always remember Rick by his infectious laughter and big smile.
My deepest condolences go out to the extended Miraglia family.
My sincerest condolences on the loss of such a wonderful man. We discussed our retirement last January and shared so many memories over our 30 years that we worked at YCDSB. We joked about getting out while we were young enough to enjoy the next chapter of our life. He loved his vocation and assisted us all with providing the needs for all our special students.
I know he will continue to watch over all those he loved and work continue to work his magic from a far!
Although he is not here in body, his soul will continue to touch all those he loved and will live on forever in the memories we all have stored in our hearts. God bless his family and know that he will watch over you for eternity. Rick, rest in peace; miss you my friend!
Sincerely,
Domenica Ferri-Violante

from your cousins in Windsor, Tom and Lori
Rick , I am still in shock. You were a mentor, guide and honestly the reason I am the teacher I am today. You are the reason I became the teacher I did. When you retired it was devastating but to know you are gone is a deep sadness. Thank you for always being the light and joy in our Board. You will be missed.
Sending our warmest condolences to the family. We have fond memories of family get togethers where we would drive from Windsor to Toronto yearly.
Thinking of you at this difficult time and keeping Ricky in our prayers.

Very sorry for your loss, you are in our thoughts.🌹
With Love from “The Sisters” as we were fondly referred to by our brother
You left us without warning. You were gone too fast. We did not have a chance to say good-bye. You were called. It was your time. We do not know why
Now all we have are our memories. We will hold onto them and we have so many
You were a unique human being. You had a wicked sense of humour, you were smart compassionate and of course charismatic. All qualities learned from our parents. You touched so many lives through your words, humour and music
You will be missed. You were the bright light in our family. You will forever be remembered
Rest In Peace dear Brother as your guitar gently weeps
Love Sandra Theresa and Mary
