My father came to Canada at 17 with very little english or possessions. With 2 years of employment in a grocery store, he brought his sister and parents over to join him in this new world . What would define my father throughout his life – a disciplined work ethic, an uncompromising belief in himself and his word.
Hunting was his passion – Suiting up in what my mother would describe as “rags”- spending the day with his hunting buddies in the bush – there was no greater joy. As a kid in our all too modest bungalow, intense laughter / storytelling would seep thru the floorboards – the hunting buddies invading the man cave below – memories of Abruzzo – the land – it’s peoples shook the house. When you’re a kid – it’s 2am- you can’t sleep these maniacs won’t shut up. You grow up, thankful your father had his hunting buddies- the joy, the laughter – he loved them. The greatest compliment I can give my father -he married extremely well. My maternal grandparents – Italia and Antonio Di Varano raised 3 girls, who became 3 young ladies that raised 3 great families I am extremely fortunate to be apart of. My father often the loudest voice in the room -my mother defined by kindness, patience, love. When my paternal grandparents, my father became ill, my mother became the definition of the term “caregiver”.
The last 4 months of my fathers life was challenging for us all. He was uncompromising, unrelenting – a Di Flaviano
I love you papa
Thank you for everything
My father law was great man. He was a great warrior. He was a great Canadian. I admired him for all these things. But I love him because he was a great father and role model to me. In losing him, I lost my greatest blessing. When he came to Canada from Italy he made the great Ontario landscape the Canadian Dream. Robert leaves a legacy of character and faith that inspires others to dream more, do more and become more. I will miss Robert deeply.
Porgiamo le più sentite condoglianze per la mancanza subita.

Uncle Robert was a great story teller and he loved talking about the things closest to his heart- hunting and Italy. His stories about Campania and the other places in Italy he enjoyed were great- and he always took a keen interest in hearing about my family’s travels and experiences. My brother Andrew and I enjoyed many visits to the Di Flaviano household over the years- from hockey pools, to baseball games in their backyard, to watching Buffalo Bills games in the living room while our parents caught up. We will miss Uncle Robert and I extend our sympathies to Aunt Velia and cousins John, Marco, and Claudia.
